🚨Dog Food Change🚨
We have been faithful to Purina Pro Plan for years. Unfortunately, due to the rising cost, $20+ per bag in the last couple of months, we are making a change. According to Dog Food Advisor, one of the top dry kibble for Labradors is Taste of the Wild Pet Food, High Prairie, Bison and Venison.
While we understand the controversy regarding grain free diets associated with DCM, Canine Dilated Cardiomyopathy, research is showing that the actual reason for this is due to the high content of peas, legumes, and lentils, not the fact that it’s grain free.
Labs, in general, are pretty susceptible to allergens, like chicken, corn, and dyes. Many cause chronic ear infections, itchy skin, and paw licking. This food, while we make no guarantees against allergens, is free of these three ingredients.
Secondly, we watch the levels of dicalcium phosphate. This is a synthetic form of calcium, and has presumably caused urinary issues, like struvite crystals and/or bladder stones, for us in the past. This brand has calcium pantothenate, which is a more natural calcium additive.
Lastly, please do not purchase (any) kibble from Amazon.com. While convenient, many times the food is old, incorrectly packaged, and contaminated with insects. Chewy is a better option for online shopping.
Please understand, we are not Vets or Vet Techs and encourage you to speak with your Veterinarian before making any food changes.
