Rangely, Colorado residents Andrew Lloyd and wife Melissa, and Mike Dunne and wife Melody came out to pick up their elk and deer. While they were here they got into some of my yard sale items. I’ll be having a huge yard sale this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Lots of antlers, skulls and rustic decor, over 30 shoulder mounts and of course hunting items. Look for add in The Nickel and Daily Sentinel.

No, we didn’t spill bleach on this elk. This elk, taken by Bart Paulsen in Utah, would be considered a Piebald. Piebald condition results from an inherited genetic trait. Piebalds characteristically have varying amount of white hair in their coats, ranging from slight amounts (like this elk) to an almost totally white coat.

When the Sheriff patrol car pulled in I thought for sure Halle was getting in trouble again! But it was our very own Mesa County Deputy Sheriff, Rich Tafoya stopping by after work to pick up his huge Desert Bighorn sheep. CPW aged this ram at over 10 years old. It’s face is very scared up and horns broomed off from many years of fighting and butting heads with other rams.

Last couple of pictures of Man Cave #2. No more room for shoulder mounts but have some space for pictures and cool decor. Some aspen trim around doors and baseboards and we’re done. Then I can start dreaming about the future Man Cave #3!

As promised…. Here’s a couple of walls of some huge elk I own that are on display in Man Cave #2.

This is what dreams are made of. John Hempen of Kentucky arrowed this huge Colorado bull in the last hours of the last day of Archery season September 2023. This massive 6x6 main frame with two extra points between the G-1 and G-2 on each side officially makes it an 8x8. John is currently in Africa bow hunting but is following my posts. This will make him “mister popular” around hunting camp. Remember, never get discouraged and quit early… you never know what’s out there waiting for you in the last minutes of daylight.

What a fun day! Two former Alaskan residents showed up to get their respective trophies. Bryan Ahlgren from Denver was picking up his huge black bear rug that he arrowed in September 2022. He brought along his daughter who never let go of the bear skull the entire time they were here! Alan Gilliland (the bush pilot) was picking up his set of locked moose antlers and his wife’s trophy moose that we brought back to their natural color. Alan brought his laptop with photos and videos of his personal hunts in Alaska. Wow…..the hunting stories that were told.

Buffalo are huge animals. Just the size of their heads dwarf Halle. Both of these buffalo were harvested on a buffalo game ranch. The white buffalo is genetically enhanced and is not considered the “Sacred White Buffalo”. Michael Kraus harvested these buffalo in back-to-back years. Buffalo meat is delicious and it looks like Michael has a lot of folks to feed!

Around here we look for any reason to celebrate and go to lunch. Halle turns 19 and Dave is celebrating 38 years of Marriage. (That’s counting all 8 of his marriages). Keely is celebrating working for me. I’m celebrating just being alive. Charley just wants to hang out with us… which is cool because he’s got the special Cabela’s card.
