Jafar, Homeless Hound Hero with Unchained Melodies Dog Rescue in Columbia, MO. Born 2007. Rescued 07/06/13. Became a legend 03/22/21. Loving everyone he met.

Jafar's story:
We received a report of 3 chained dogs on a property in 2013. This is when we first met Jafar. The owners agreed to relinquish the other two dogs. But unfortunately Jafar remained chained for TWO MORE YEARS. His owners finally agreed to relinquish him the summer of 2015. Despite living his whole life on a chain, he was happy and playful. Since his rescue he has become a local star a

t all the 5ks in Columbia. You might say, a super dog. While on all his adventures, looking for his furever family, he helped rescue chained dogs and educated the public on the suffering dogs endured while chained and isolated.

Friends, please join me in welcoming my good buddy Spirit, aka, Garbageman. Spirit crossed the Rainbow Bridge this morning surrounded by love at his favorite volunteer's home.

Spirit came to Unchained Melodies Dog Rescue in February of 2016. Spirit had been chained up with a log chain. The only shelter he was given was an igloo dog house that had sunk into the ground.

He quickly became a volunteer favorite. Right after me, of course. BOL! And it was shortly after his rescue the volunteers realized he would try to eat anything. Seriously, anything. Wrappers, plastic bags, cardboard, gloves, anything! So now you know why he was called the Garbageman.

Spirit and I quickly became best buds. And we would go on adventures together. We'd go on walks, and hikes, and get to wrestle in the play yard together. I even took him to Sonic to get hot dogs with me. Boy, could he eat!

The volunteers estimated Spirit to be about 16 years old. So, it was with heavy hearts, the volunteers knew it was his time. His time to cross over the rainbow bridge and come out the other side a young and spry pup. Free from pain. Log chains and sunken dog houses long forgotten. Ready to join me so we could once again run and play. And of course eat all the hot dogs a dog could want. 🌭

So Spirit, welcome my friend. I am happy to see you again. Let me show you around. ❤️🌈🐾

Hi friends. It's been 4 years since I crossed the rainbow bridge on March 22nd, 2021. I just wanted to drop in and say thank you.

Thank you to the volunteers at Unchained Melodies who continue to remember and honor me. Rescuing dogs in need. Providing care and lots of love until their furever homes are found.

And to all of you, who continue to support the mission of Unchained Melodies Dog Rescue.

Without people like my friend, Cindy, they wouldn't be able to continue to do what they do. Giving their time to dogs in need. Your support makes it possible. And for that, you all are pawsome!

Jafar- Hero of Homeless Hounds went on one last 6.30mile hike today. We started at the top of the Serpents Trail and hiked down to the No Thoroughfare Canyon Trail. We stopped at the waterfall on the No Thoroughfare Canyon trail to spread some of his ashes. Then we just sat there taking it all in. The sound of the waterfall, the big beautiful sky. A perfect day and place to honor our boy.

One year ago today, I had a lovely day with my oldest buddy, Spirit, aka Garbage Man. We went on a nice walk. The weather was perfect. We checked our Peemail, and I gave him all the tips on how to get more hot dogs. BOL!

And I got to take one last walk with Melody, the woman who started it all. Without her, I don't know if I ever would have been unchained from that tree. I would have never known the joy that is hot dogs from Sonic. For that, I will furever be grateful. Hundreds of dogs will furever be grateful because of her and all the volunteers at Unchained Melodies Dog Rescue, and every rescue every where. ❤️

One year ago today. The Girl had to make a decision and she dreaded sharing it with you.

We spent the weekend doing all my favorite things. We slept on the couch together. Ate all the food, went on walks, and lots of car rides. I got to see so many friends. It was the most PAWSOME weekend.❤️

And don't worry Girl, you made the right decision. I knew I had the big C even though you didn't yet. I told you it was time.

I'll share these memories with you over the next couple of days. So you guys can remember how much your love meant to me and continues to mean to all the Homeless Hounds. ❤️🌈🐾
