373 days.

For 373 sunrises, Chucky has leapt up at the sound of footsteps, certain that today will be his day. For 373 sunsets, he has curled up on a blanket that was never meant to be a forever bed, wondering why the good-bye he dreams of never comes.

Chucky arrived on July 15, 2024, a ten-month-old rocket of enthusiasm with the whole world ahead of him. Now, after 373 days of waiting, he’s spent more of his young life in a shelter than out in the sunshine—and it shows. His energy, once playful puppy zoomies, is turning into frantic circles. Manners are hard to practice when the only “living room” you know is four concrete walls.

Yet even after 373 days behind a kennel door, Chucky’s heart hasn’t dimmed. He’s a play-group champ, reading other dogs’ signals like a pro and reveling in every game of chase. He greets every adult with full-body wiggles (his love may overwhelm the littlest kids), and when you lock eyes, you’ll see a brain that’s aching for a puzzle, a job, a chance to learn. Give him ten minutes of focused training and he’ll show you how smart he is—give him ten months of it and he’ll show you loyalty that no textbook can teach.

But he can’t do it alone. After 373 days of watching his friends leave one by one, Chucky needs a person who sees past the kennel stress to the incredible dog inside. He needs more than love—he needs space. Apartment living won’t be a good fit for him. What this boy truly needs is room to run, a backyard to burn off his boundless energy, and a routine that helps him finally breathe.
