Helping a friend rehome Clark! 🐾

Clark is a 5-year-old Shar Pei / Pit mix who sadly needs a new home. 😔 His family has had him since he was a puppy and loves him deeply, but after a recent bite incident (circumstances/situation unclear) involving one of their daughters, they feel it’s safest to find him a home better suited for his needs. And I mean, come ON—look at that handsome face 😍

Clark is very loyal and affectionate with his people—when he feels like it🐶❣️He’s calm and THRIVES in a stable home environment! He can bark at strangers at first and be a bit fearful, but settles once he gets to know them.

He has lived with a cat 🐈‍⬛ and he has been fine with the few dogs he’s met! However, the family feels like he would be the most successful in a calm, adult-only home with someone looking for a devoted companion (aka velcroe dog)🐕‍🦺

This is an extremely heartbreaking decision for the family, and they want to find the right fit for him. They have tried many rescues and rescue groups, and due to the incident, behavioral euthanasia is the most likely outcome in his cards if he can’t be rehomed 💔

✨Making petsitting fun and enriching is always my top priority✨

Another wonderful, warm, sunny Rockford day in the books, with a twist—tonight is his first sleepover with his BFF Baron!💓

With a home full of a several cozy dog beds to choose from, comfy couches, cozy beds fo snuggle up in, buckets full of toys, bully sticks, frozen lick mats, puzzle toys, a passionate caretaker, and his BFF by his side…Rockford is THRIVING✨💓

This is HUGE for him—not too long ago, he was a very worried, anxious, door-dasher that had trouble making new friends (especially ones that wanted to play a little too rough and had lots of energy). Look at him now!😍🐕✨

Benefits of using “Touch” and “Place” in reactive dog training (“snoot” was just for fun☺️): ⬇️🫱🏻🐾 “Touch” encouragers voluntary engagement, builds confidence around hands near the face, and offers an alternative behavior for mouthy or reactive dogs. 🐕🛏 Place: Promotes impulse control, emotional regulation, and a clear on/off switch for arousal. In the video shown, “touch” is used as the release cue to leave “Place.” Both cues shown here with my former foster Pinky, who thrived when given clear communication and positive outlets to learn. These aren’t just commands—they’re skills that help dogs feel safe, understood, and successful. ✨Fun fact: These cues helped Pinky be more confident and alleviated reactivity when it came to: people walking by him a little faster than he’s comfortable with, grooming around his face, reaching towards him, hand-delivering treats, feeding (placing the food bowl near him was a little scary for him at first!), having an outlet to redirect from reacting and put focus on a known cue that he LOVES, and a place to settle in moments of high arousal and/or frustration. ✨⭐️An important thing when it comes to success in learning a new skill: repeating cues doesn’t help them learn faster—it teaches them to wait you out and weakens the cue. Ask them to do the behavior once (twice is my maximum in the very beginning stages) and wait to allow processing time. If there’s no response, help them succeed by adjusting the criteria (lower criteria, use a hand target/signal, reset, or guide them into position) and reinforce when they get it right! Clear, consistent, single-commanded cues build better communication, faster responses, and a more confident learner 🐾

Just a sneak peek at some of the incredible pups I met in 2025. I’m so grateful for the unbreakable bonds formed along the way 🤎🐕 These shelter dogs stole my whole heart, and I’m beyond thrilled that they’re all now settled into their forever homes (yay! 🥳🙏🏻).

What makes shelter work so deeply rewarding is being able to support the dogs who need it most—the worried ones, the shy and fearful, the quirky, the reactive, the ones who don’t quite fit the mold—and watching them blossom into confident, happy companions. I’m truly honored to have played a part (both big and small) in their journeys 🐕✨

Here’s to building even more unbreakable bonds in 2026 🙌🏻🫶🏼✨
