Well, Fonzie hit the jackpot with his new home. A fan, little friends, big friend, lots of people friends, tons of love and a beautiful place to call home.

We could not be more pleased with this Adoption. Fonzie is a lucky guy. Be happy Fonzie! Lots of adventures ahead for you sweet guy.

08/29/2026 Good Morning from Hooves and Paws Rescue of the Heartland, Inc.

Billy was up and moving around several hours last night. So, if Billy is up, the whole house is up! I would guess we got about two hours sleep😳

As long as I was up, I started laundry, brushed the dogs and got us a snack. Why not🤣

Morning feedings and chores are done! Now it is time to start mowing. Catch up with everyone later.

08/28/2026 UPDATE on Billy
They operated on Billy today to fix the bone in his foot that broke. The complication was that he is diabetic and had a wound on his foot we were trying to heal. Because of the break so close to the wound on his foot the healing was not happening. They took a piece of bone out of his knee to use in his foot. Also, this is really cool. A piece of bone was donated from someone who passed away to use with Billy's bone❤
It was a tough operation. We are hopeful he heals quickly. No weight bearing on that foot for 8 weeks 🙁
He already ate (of course) and is resting.
Finally, a HUGE thank you to Malvern/Glenwood paramedics for helping me get him up the stairs into our home. I thought I could do it, but he was weak from the operation and not much help. Lifting 205 lbs got the best of me.

TRANSPORT HELP NEEDED
We need a transport for one owner surrender horse that has been adopted. Afton, Iowa to Council Bluffs, Iowa 08/30/26. Owner will load horse. Please text us at Hooves & Paws Rescue of the Heartland if you can help.

No straight load trailers please.

At this time we are not able to transport so any help is welcome.

Welcome to Hooves and Paws Rescue of the Heartland, Inc.,
Larry❤Yes, we named our new arrival Larry!!

Larry arrived needing a place to get a meal, a drink and a safe place to lay his head. He just showed up.

He only has ONE eye😞and he was VERY feral when he arrived. Now after a few short weeks he knows we eat in the morning and in the evening. There is always water in many places when he wants a drink. We gave him his own area until our naughty female cat Dorothy accepts him. All the other barn cats accept him. But Dorothy always takes time to warm up to any new arrivals.
Larry stopped running from me today. He watches me when I go to the bottom barn and follows me❤I always talk to him and tell him, it's ok. Come on.

Thomas another one of our barn cats is really friendly with Larry. Good job Thomas. Everybody needs a friend.

We are happy to welcome Larry to our barn cat family. He is very pretty and only having one eye I am sure he has a story to tell. They all have a story and if they could only talk I sure they would tell us.

For now, we will just hang out together when I do chores and feedings and make him feel at home.

WOW! Today Bridget Bee, Alexis Huntoon and I accomplished a ton of work.
*Feedings Done
*Chores and cleaning paddocks Done
*Mowing Done
*W**d Eating Almost All Done
*Drilling holes on all the feeders to keep the rain draining out of them Done

🤣Mustang Lucy was watching us drill holes in the feeders at the bottom barns and she is "FEARLESS". She is so nosey and always in everyone's business. A loud drill is no match for Mustang Lucy. Love her to pieces!!

08/20/2026 FONZIE Update....ADOPTED!

Fonzie is a really cool guy and he will be going to a home that is incredible and so much fun!! He will have lots of equine friends and tons of love from everyone. Thank you so much to those who think adoption. Stay Tuned for updates on Fonzie❤

August 18, 2026 Update on a thoroughbred gelding, broke to ride.

A wellness check is being done on him. Once we have those results, we will determine who he is best suited for. His human mom sadly passed away due to a motor vehicle accident, and we will be looking for a home for him.

Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers. The Mom was very much involved in animal rescue work.
