Today’s fun farm animal facts provided by Aimee’s Farm Animal Sanctuary

Here are some fun facts about donkeys:
Strength: Donkeys are surprisingly strong for their size, even more so than horses of similar build.
Memory: Donkeys have impressive memories, able to recognize places and other donkeys they haven't seen in years (up to 25 years).
Intelligence: Donkeys are intelligent and can be trained with positive reinforcement.
Communication: They communicate through various vocalizations, including their well-known bray, and also use body language.
Social Nature: Donkeys thrive on social interaction and form strong bonds with other donkeys, often forming best-friend type relationships.
Lifespan: Donkeys can live for over 50 years.
Safety First: What appears as stubbornness is often a safety precaution, as donkeys are reluctant to do anything they perceive as unsafe.
Big Ears, Big Hearing: Donkeys have large ears that are not only for hearing well, but also help regulate their body temperature.
Not Waterproof: Donkeys don't handle rain well and prefer to stay dry.
Resilience: Donkeys are well-suited to harsh environments due to their strong hooves and efficient digestive systems.
Protective Nature: Donkeys can be protective of other animals, including those they are bonded with.
Emotional Expression: Donkeys can express emotions through their facial expressions.
donkeys are more closely related to zebras than they are to horses. While all three belong to the same genus, Equus, horses branched off earlier in the evolutionary timeline, while donkeys and zebras share a more recent common ancestor.

Fun harvest fact from Europe

A classic harvest festival tradition in Europe is to make corn dollies, which are small symbols or figurines that are hand-made using straw from the last of the corn that was harvested. It all has to do with an old legend - people believed that the spirit of the corn lived among the crops, and by crafting corn dollies, the spirit would have a place to rest throughout the winter months until planting season the next year.

Some may ask “are there ticks in Arizona”?

Yes, there are ticks in Arizona. While Arizona is known for its arid climate, ticks can be found in various areas, particularly where there is vegetation and moisture. Tick season in Arizona generally runs from April to October, but ticks can be active year-round due to the state's warm temperatures

Using Plants That Repel Ticks

Garlic, sage, mint, lavender, beautyberry, rosemary and marigolds are some of the most familiar and effective tick-repelling plants, and they are great to use in landscaping borders around decks, walkways, pet runs, patios and other areas to keep ticks away.

While Lyme disease is very rare in Arizona, it is not entirely absent. Arizona residents can contract Lyme disease while traveling in other states where it is endemic, but the ticks in Arizona are not the primary carriers of the disease. The western black-legged tick, which can carry Lyme disease, is found in higher elevations of Arizona, but cases acquired in the state are uncommon.
