How we got our name: When we decided to start raising Border Aussies in 2017, we needed a name. My husband mentioned MilkyWay and it seemed to fit since Ridge and Teva (who helped us start it all) were the colors of a MilkyWay Dark and “MilkyWay” was my grandfather’s CB handle years ago and I thought back to when I used to sit in the office with my grandmother and call out, “How ‘bout ya MilkyWay”
over the CB and my grandfather would answer back, “How ‘bout ya Songbird” to my grandmother. It was the equivalent of a cell phone these days but the entire family could sit around the CB and talk. My grandfather was an entrepreneur who started his own milk trucking business and worked 7 days a week to supply for his family. He was a God loving, hard-working, honest man who instilled in me the same ethics. At an early age, he would hand me a jar and send me out into his garden to collect potato bugs for a penny a piece. It only seemed fitting that my first entrepreneurial endeavor should be named after him. That is where the name MilkyWay came from. We currently only breed genetically tested, standard size, AKC and ASDR purebred Australian Shepherds in our Garland, Maine home. All puppies are born and raised in our home. Our dogs are not kept in outdoor kennels or cold basements. They are loved on from the day they are born and around family from day one until we find them a loving home. We do not dock tails or remove dewclaws. We believe in keeping our dogs the way God made them!
