🐴 We’re excited to share how integrating Truforma’s ACTH testing has helped us at LCEP streamline our diagnostics and treatment planning for laminitis and PPID cases. With results available in just 20 minutes, we can now make faster, more informed decisions and start targeted care sooner—when every minute counts.

Check out this article to learn more about how Truforma is changing the game in equine endocrine testing! 🐴

Researchers recently evaluated a new ACTH point-of-care test (TRUFORMA, manufactured by Zomedica and released in fall 2023), which reportedly demonstrated good overall agreement with the chemiluminescent immunoassay in both non-PPID and PPID animals.⁣

📸 How a Current X-Ray Can Help Your Farrier with Shoeing 🐎🔍

Did you know that having up-to-date X-rays of your horse’s hooves can make a huge difference in their comfort and performance? Proper balance and shoeing are key to soundness, and X-rays give your farrier valuable insight that can’t be seen from the outside!

🔹 Why Are X-Rays Helpful?
✅ Show internal hoof balance for precise trimming & shoe placement
✅ Identify coffin bone alignment and prevent excessive toe/heel length
✅ Detect hidden issues like thin soles, navicular changes, or arthritis
✅ Help create a customized shoeing plan for improved performance

💡 Regular hoof X-rays + skilled farriery = a sounder, happier horse! If your horse struggles with hoof issues, consider scheduling a set of X-rays before their next shoeing appointment.

🌡️ Colic Prevention During Weather Changes 🐎

Sudden weather changes—whether it’s a drop in temperature or a shift in seasons—can increase the risk of colic in horses. Here’s how you can help prevent digestive upset during these transitions:

🔹 Keep Water Readily Available 💧
❌ Cold weather can reduce water intake, leading to dehydration and impaction colic.
✅ Keep water above freezing and encourage drinking by adding electrolytes or soaking feed.

🔹 Maintain a Consistent Diet 🌾
❌ Sudden changes in hay or grain can disrupt gut bacteria.
✅ Introduce new forage gradually and ensure plenty of fiber for gut motility.

🔹 Encourage Movement 🚶‍♂️
❌ Reduced turnout or exercise can slow digestion.
✅ Keep horses moving with turnout, hand-walking, or light riding, even in colder months.

🔹 Monitor for Early Signs 👀
⚠️ Watch for decreased appetite, pawing, rolling, or changes in manure consistency—these can be early warning signs of colic!

🩺 Prevention is key! If your horse is showing signs of discomfort, contact your veterinarian immediately. Stay ahead of seasonal colic risks with proactive management!
