High Desert Taxidermy Bringing memories to life

03/01/2026

After 22 years in business, I have decided to start slowing down. I will not be taking any new work this year. I will be concentrating on getting all work from last year completed and out the door. If you have something left with me, rest assured, I am, or will be working on it, soon. As always you can call me if you have questions.

"El Weirdo" is almost ready for his new home. This was a hard one for me. With the right antler coming out of the head at a weird angle all symmetry is now lost, (everything looks out of balance). Lots of form alterations to achieve antler clearance.

Some people think that taxidermy is as easy as throwing a hide on a form, Not . You also need to fit the form to the hide, (not the hide to the form). Antler clearance is a major factor when mounting an elk. I modified this form by changing the head angle and also adding more to one side of the form to get the antler clearance needed. Still a little ruff but is getting close. Next I will test fit the Hide (cape) to ensure I have enough to fit. This one is a bit of an abnormal Elk so be sure to follow as it progresses.

Wait What? Something a little off here.

Colorado Swamp Donkey just mounted. Needs a couple of weeks to dry and then the finish work. Another Alaskan Moose on its way. Nothing gets dull around here.

40+ years of trying to learn how to make dead animals look as lifelike as possible. And then Murphy comes along, and I feel like I have taken a huge step back. Not my favorite mount but that is what the customer wanted.
