A little bit about my quarantine procedure.
When the fish arrive I check the salinity they arrived in and adjust my water accordingly.
Fish are floated for temperature then I do a slow drip acclimation, with prime added to neutralize ammonia.
After an hour or so they are added to tanks.
I don't medicate for the first few days, as it can add extra stress to the fish. I just observe and offer various foods.
I give freshwater dips to fish showing any outward appearance of disease during this time.
After they have settled in, they are either treated with prazipro and metronidazole for one week, or formalin if they show signs of ich, velvet, or brook. If treated with formalin it's a 10 day treatment followed by the prazipro and metronidazole combo, if not the fish get the 10 day formalin after one week of prazipro combo.
A second round of prazipro and metronidazole is given 10 days after the first round ends.
Starting on week 2 all fish are fed with medicated food, API general cure for internal parasites and flagelates. This is continuous for 3 weeks or more.
After all external parasites have been treated for, fish are once again observed for at least a week.
Fish are fed a variety of foods, frozen brine, mysis, fish eggs, silversides (for predators), chopped market shrimp, and vegetable formula. Live clams are also offered after being frozen, so I guess they are frozen food too. I also feed pellets and flakes. The pellets I use are NLS with probiotics, and TDO ChromaBoost.
During the quarantine period I slowly adjust water parameters to those most hobbyists keep reef aquariums at. Salinity of 34-35ppm, pH of 8-8.3, temperature 78°F, alk 8-9 dkh.
By doing this the fish are ready right when they arrive to you to go into your reef aquarium.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Have a great day,
Aaron
