Our therapy dogs are READ® Certified — but what does that mean?

The READ (Reading Education Assistance Dogs) Program pairs children with specially trained therapy dogs to create a calm, supportive, and judgment-free reading environment. Our teams complete additional training and certification beyond standard therapy dog work to help build confidence, improve literacy skills, and make reading fun and stress-free.

📘❄️ Come read a winter story or a snowman book to Lucy and Woodie.
They’ll be there, ready to listen and cheer you on — one page at a time!

Today, Wags for Hope visited Unified Community Connections with Team Raymond—one of the wonderful organizations we visit that supports individuals with disabilities. Unified Community Connections provides vital support services that help people with disabilities gain independence and improve their quality of life, and we are always honored to spend time there.

Raymond was all geared up and ready to see everyone; however, due to illness, today’s visit was limited to visiting with the staff only. Even so, it was still a pawsitively great visit, spreading some much-needed holiday cheer—or should we say Pawliday cheer, just the way Raymond would say it! 🐾🎄

Thank you to Team Raymond for visiting today and helping make the season a little brighter for the amazing staff at Unified Community Connections!

🎄🐾 Lucy’s on the job — holiday edition! 🐾🎄

Our favorite helper, Lucy, had a very important task yesterday — picking out the ornaments for the Grand Prize winners! 🎁✨
Three lucky winners will receive ornaments after finding the elves that the Grinch hid around the Town of Thurmont. How fun is that?!

Lucy is a certified therapy dog with Wags For Hope, and when requested, she also proudly serves as a therapy dog with the Thurmont Police Department. This partnership is so important because it helps strengthen the bond between law enforcement and the community while spreading comfort, smiles, and positive connections for all ages. 💙🐕

We hope you enjoy watching Lucy carefully choose the winning ornaments in the video — she takes her job very seriously (with a little tail-wagging fun too)! 🎥🐾

🐾 Wags For Hope Visits Nursing Homes & Assisted Living Facilities 🎄

At Wags For Hope, our therapy dog teams love bringing smiles, comfort, and connection to nursing homes and assisted living facilities throughout our community. 💙

Check out Team CoCo, dressed in festive Santa gear, spreading holiday cheer during their visit to Edenton in Frederick, MD! 🎅🐶 What a pawsome visit—residents and staff always look forward to Team CoCo’s visits, and the joy on their faces says it all.

Maya is truly one-of-a-kind — a happy, gentle, tail-wagging bundle of joy who brightens every room she enters. As a therapy dog, she has an amazing way of making people smile, easing worries, and spreading comfort just by being her sweet self. From soft snuggles to listening patiently to stories and sharing her calm, loving presence, Maya makes a difference everywhere she goes.

She’s not just a great therapy dog — she’s a heart-stealer, a mood-lifter, and a certified happiness ambassador. 🐶💖

📚🎄 READ Was Very Merry at Brunswick Library! 🎄📚

The holiday cheer was in full swing at Brunswick Library as Team Mabel and Maya curled up with young readers for a paws-itively joyful Read to a Dog visit! Smiles were shared, stories were read, and confidence grew with every page turned. 🐾❤️
