As the therapy dog, Sparkle The Therapy Dog wagged her tail eagerly, and the therapy alpaca, Everlast, stood tall with a gentle demeanor, they entered the bustling halls of the high school. Students paused in their tracks, their faces lighting up with smiles as they approached the furry duo. Team Sparkle greeted them with soft nudges and friendly licks, while Team Everlast offered calm reassurance with his tranquil presence. Together, Wags For Hope and Pet on Wheels brought a sense of comfort and warmth to the students, providing a much-needed break from the stresses of school life.

Way to go Team Sparkle ✨️ and Team Everlast!

Where was Wags For Hope on Monday, May 6th?

We were at one of FCPS Maryland schools!!

Thurmont Middle School!

During our visit, the therapy dogs, accompanied by trained handlers, spent time in a common area allowing students the opportunity to pet, cuddle, and play with them. For many students, this interaction provided a welcome break from their academic routines and offered a chance to unwind and relax.

Overall, therapy dog visits in public schools contribute to a nurturing and inclusive environment where students feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed academically and emotionally. They are a valuable resource for promoting mental health and well-being in the school setting.

Thank You Teams Wayne, Woodie and Lucy. Our special guest Team Everlast with Pet on Wheels was able to visit with Wags For Hope.

Great Team Work!

Sparkle The Therapy Dog with Wags For Hope and is a certified Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.).
Thanks for the post.

What is a READ πŸ“š program?

The Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) program improves children’s reading and communication skills by employing a powerful method: reading to an animal. But not just any animal. R.E.A.D. companions are registered therapy animals who volunteer with their owner/handlers as a team, going to schools, libraries and many other settings as reading companions for children.

** Therapy Dog Team Joins Police Department at Community Event**

In a heartwarming display of community engagement, the Thurmont Police Department welcomed a unique addition to their ranks at a recent event. Amidst the many uniforms and official vehicles, the therapy dog teams stood out, offering a different kind of support to both officers and attendees alike.

Accompanied by their dedicated handlers, the therapy dog teams, Rico, Skyler, Maya, Cami and Brownie brought a sense of comfort and companionship to the event.

For many, the presence of therapy dogs served as a welcome respite from the often-stressful atmosphere associated with law enforcement events. Children delighted in petting and interacting with the friendly canines, while adults found solace in their calming presence.

Lieutenant Morales who spearheaded the initiative, emphasized the importance of incorporating therapy dogs into community outreach efforts.

The benefits of therapy dogs in law enforcement settings extend beyond mere companionship. Research has shown that interactions with animals can reduce stress, anxiety, and even blood pressure levels. In a profession where the daily challenges can take a toll on mental well-being, initiatives like this serve as a beacon of hope and positivity.

The event itself was a testament to the power of collaboration and community spirit. Amidst demonstrations, informational booths, and engaging activities, the therapy dog team remained a focal point, drawing smiles and fostering connections wherever they went.

As the day came to a close, attendees left with more than just fond memories of the event; they left with a renewed sense of appreciation for the dedicated men, women, and furry companions who serve their community with unwavering commitment.

With the success of this endeavor, the Thurmont Police Department looks forward to continuing their partnership with Wags For Hope therapy dog teams, ensuring that future events are not only informative and engaging but also uplifting for all who attend.

Take a look at Team Woodie and Lucy at Emmitsburg Branch Library last night.

What is one of the benefits to reading πŸ“š to a Dog?

Improving Literacy Skills: Regular practice is crucial for developing strong literacy skills. Reading to a dog offers a fun and engaging way for children to practice reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. As they read to their furry friends, they also improve their pronunciation and word recognition.

On Friday, March 22, Wags For Hope attended their first Therapy Dog visit at Phoenix Recovery Academy.

When Team Sparkle and Team Cami entered
the room it was filled with laughter and joy as the teens interacted with the dogs. Some sat on the floor, surrounded by a furry audience eager for attention. Others engaged by gently petting them.

For these moments, worries faded away. The weight of social insecurities, and personal challenges momentarily lifted as the teens immersed themselves in the simple pleasure of petting a dog's soft fur or watching a tail wag with delight.

Therapy dogs have a magical way of bridging gaps, bringing people together in shared moments of happiness. They are non-judgmental listeners, providing a safe space for teens to express themselves without fear of criticism.

As the visit comes to an end, the teens reluctantly say goodbye to their canine companions, but they leave with a renewed sense of calm and positivity. The therapy dogs have left an imprint on their hearts, reminding them of the importance of self-care and the healing power of animal companionship.

For these teens, visiting therapy dogs isn't just about petting cute animals; it's about finding solace, companionship, and a much-needed break from the challenges of adolescence. It's a reminder that amidst the chaos of teenage life, there are moments of peace and joy to be found, often in the wag of a tail and the warmth of a furry friend.

Wags for Hope is excited to say this will not be our last visit here but the first of many more!

On Thursday, March 21st, was our first partnership event with the Thurmont Police Department.

We attended family movie 🎬 night at the Thurmont Middle School. Team Maya and Team Sparkle enjoyed all students and a special guest!

Maya and Sparkle had the pleasure to meet a tortoise 🐒. This isn't everyday you get the chance to make friends with a tortoise. The Therapy Dogs, tails wagging eagerly approached the tortoise with cautious curiosity. The tortoise slow and steady, seemed unfazed by the lively canines.

For the therapy dogs, this encounter was more than just a visitβ€”it was a lesson in acceptance and the beauty of diversity. They learned that friendship knows no bounds, whether you're a furry canine or a slow-moving tortoise.

It was a great night for all students, staff, guest and the tortoise 🐒.

On Thursday, February 29th, Wags For Hope was invited to Kindness Night at SRES-Spring Ridge Elementary School.

Inviting therapy dog to this event is perfect!

Why?

Because, our handlers have experienced their dogs showing affectionate and caring behaviors, which can be seen as acts of kindness.

We are privileged to have our Junior Handler Emily attend to this event with her dog Aspen.
