Professional tips for fireworks safety around pets:

• Ensure pets are walked and pottied before dusk.
• Be aware that fireworks can cause dogs to go into flight mode, so consider utilizing a long line if outdoors after dark.
• During fireworks displays, crate your dog or place them in a quiet room with sound machines, and keep windows and doors closed to minimize stress.

We talk about using the place command as a helpful management tool for our dogs. We teach them to go to a specific spot and stay there until released, which can be useful during busy times, mealtimes, or when we can't keep a close eye on them. This helps manage the household and removes the option for unwanted behaviors. The dog, Bruno, has learned to put himself on the place, as he's realized he can't engage in certain problematic behaviors like jumping, counter surfing, or attacking other dogs. We discuss how this gives him a safe space and helps build trust in our leadership. We also note that some dogs, like Bruno, can be very charming and use that to try to get out of trouble, so we need to be aware of that and not let it undermine the training. We discuss how a dog's charming and manipulative behavior can be a survival skill learned on the streets, and how it's important to establish a clear hierarchy and leadership role to avoid conflicts over resources. The dog may try to charm its way out of situations, but the owner needs to be firm and consistent in their training to shift the hierarchy back in their favor. In this video, we discuss the dynamic between humans and domesticated dogs. We talk about the importance of establishing leadership and respect in the relationship, while also acknowledging the need to balance that with understanding the dog's natural instincts and desires. We explore how this can create a more harmonious and fulfilling life together, even with the occasional bumps in the road. In this video, I discuss the process of rehabilitating a dog that is struggling with certain behaviors. I explain how I use a structured approach, clear communication, and positive reinforcement to help the dog learn new, more appropriate responses. I emphasize the importance of taking on a leadership role and guiding the dog through challenging situations, rather than just letting the dog figure it out on its own. The goal is to build trust and help the dog develop the skills it needs to navigate social situations in a healthy way.

We're working on Beau’s heel training, teaching him to walk nicely at our side. He's trying to run off to other people, but we're correcting that behavior and getting him to focus on the heel position. We're doing this training off-leash so he can practice and learn, rather than being restrained on a leash the whole time.

Riley is learning the place command - this is our foundation of impulse control and boundaries!

Group work with Beau and his sisters, Teddi and Lucy! Place command, boundaries, and group dynamics.

In this video, we discuss training a dog to go to their 'place' command when they start barking. We pattern the dog to respond to a knock and go to their place, using a recall with a tone. The dog is very intelligent and picks up the training quickly. We also work on teaching the dog to stay on their place and not bother the other dogs in the house, correcting any inappropriate behavior. The goal is to help the dog learn how to properly interact with the other dogs without being a nuisance. In this video, I talk about training and managing a group of dogs. I discuss how I establish myself as the leader, set boundaries, and use positive reinforcement to encourage good behavior. I observe the dogs' interactions and how they respond to corrections, and I'm proud of how one dog in particular is maturing and learning to navigate social situations appropriately.

Welcome 7 month old golden retriever, Maisie to training! We trained their first golden a few years ago, so it was a no brainer to send Maisie as well!

I'm working with Misty, a dog I'm training. We're practicing basic obedience commands like place, recall, and stay. Misty is testing the boundaries, but I'm here to prove to her that I will follow through and hold her accountable. We're keeping the training simple and focusing on building her skills and her owner's ability to reinforce them at home.

We talk about a stray dog named Bruno that was rescued from Puerto Rico and brought to the States. He has had some behavioral issues, including being attacked by another dog at the foster's house and showing food aggression at his new owner's house. The trainer is working on establishing control with Bruno, teaching him to respect the human and follow commands, in order to create a safe and harmonious home environment. In this video, I discuss the importance of establishing a hierarchy and controlling resources when training a dog. I explain how I mimic the ritual of hierarchy establishment to show the dog that I will take care of him and control access to resources. I also introduce the dog to another dog, Riggins, and demonstrate how I control the interaction to ensure a positive experience. Throughout the video, I praise the dog for his good behavior and work to build a trusting relationship. In this video, I discuss the importance of establishing myself as the pack leader when training a dog. I explain how I'm communicating to the dog that I want to be part of his pack, but I will be the one leading. I describe the dog's behaviors and how I'm reinforcing my role as the leader, even when the dog tries to assert his own dominance. I also talk about the need to work on the dog's recall and his behavior when going out the door. We talk about training a dog to have good door manners and stay calm when going in and out. The dog is praised and rewarded for listening and not rushing out the door. We work on the 'stay' command and gradually build up the dog's ability to remain in place.

We are continuing recall foundation training with Riley. Josh has introduced a new 'follow' command, where Riley learns to come to him when she hears a tone. We're also working on her stay command, which has been challenging due to her history of only staying for a short time. Despite not being restrained, Riley is no longer making multiple attempts to run away, showing major progress in her training.

We are out with our mini schnauzer, Beau, to observe his organic behavior without commands. Previously, he was constantly barking, but now we're seeing more controlled behavior. We're testing his reactions to things like passing cars and potential dog sightings, correcting him when he tries to wander off, and reinforcing his awareness of us as the pack. The goal is to create an off-leash dog who is well-behaved and doesn't run away. When we encounter people, the dog looks to the handlers for guidance and chooses to come with us instead of going over to the strangers. We are impressed with Beau’s intelligence and ability to avoid corrections.
