200 SHARES NEEDED FOR MEG (SHE'S OUTSIDE IN THIS WEATHER - STILL!) ZERO FOSTER APPLICATIONS FOR HER. C'MON MILWAUKEE METRO - HELP US HELP HER.
It's just crushing. Instead of opening our email accounts (multiple times a day) with hope that today is the day a foster application for Meg (or Sweetie Pie) will be waiting there, now, we assume there aren't going to be any. It shouldn't be like this.
We live in a community that would rather support shelters that kill, than organizations that are No Kill. It's really hard to wrap our minds around. It's utterly depressing. What community doesn't want to become No Kill? We don't know how else to ask for help other than setting a goal of shares to see who wants to come along with us to work to make this community No Kill (we tried asking for 100 shares for Sweetie Pie yesterday and didn't even get that. What is going on here?) We don't want to save just Meg, we want to save 300 cats just like her that would be killed if brought to one of the big shelters (and people with "good intentions" do that every single day, signing their death certificate) - but how can we do that when we don't have the support in getting the need out, and no foster home, to help just one? This community has to do better. Lives are on the line every single day.
Meg is an undersocialized cat. She's the mom of our Nani and Lilo who are also undersocialized. For now. Nani and Lilo are in a foster home working on their socialization and making strides every single day - because a couple that had what they needed saw their need and did what human beings should do when called to help - they stepped up to help. Meg is waiting for that chance, too. So who's going to help her?
What Meg needs to succeed is not uncommon. It's not rare. In fact its quite ordinary. Here's what she needs. If we are describing you, go to www.milwaukeepetsalive.org/foster and fill out a foster application. If you are not a match, share this - help this get this out to the person that won't look away from Meg's cry for help. We've already reached people who fit what she needs - every single day - but we need to reach her HERO - someone that is going actually help her and not just go about their day as if they didn't see her pleading eyes.
Meg needs a quiet, calm, relaxed adult-only foster home with an individual or couple. There should be no dogs in the home. Often times for the undersocialized ones, we like to place them in a foster home with a resident cat that is paired to their needs to help them feel more confident and secure - and that would be great if there is such a foster home as previously expressed that also has a young (Meg is between 1 and 2 years old - matching energy is important if we want another cat to help her) MALE cat who is playful, curious, outgoing, and care-free (or 2 such boy-cats). No female cats, however. But Meg has also impressed us with allowing her caretaker to earn her trust and she is quite affectionate with her, so we think Meg could also do well as the only animal in the home. Like all of our foster homes, Megs must also be located in the 5 counties we serve - Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, or Ozaukee.
That's it. What Meg needs is not difficult and pretty self explanatory, but if you have questions about fostering in general, email [email protected] to correspond with a volunteer who can answer those questions for you.
