Inspired by a client's dog, I wanted to suggest you try combining cues together if you want to add fun to your training!

Current training goal has been Recall and specifically using the "Auto Sit". Here I wait until he does the Sit without a verbal cue or hand signal. This takes several days and a lot of patience!

Side note: Griffin recently broke his training leash which is why I'm using this old retractable leash until I get a new one. I do not condone them being used for leash walking in public and please ask if you want to know why. 🤪

Saturday was a beautiful day for fun in the sun with Spirit getting pampered by kids from my church! I also included a ground lesson about horse colors and markings.

Let me know if your child is interested in lessons and I would be happy to send info about the curriculum and why I include both riding and ground lessons!

Musings of a Girl, her Morgan Horse, and her Blue Heeler...I wanted to start sharing some personal stories of how animals can teach us lessons in each interaction if we take the time to slow down and listen. Today's lessons were about Trust and Attentiveness:

1) Lately, my horse Spirit has decided she likes to walk right next to a steep ditch on our trail rides. I usually overreact in these situations and she taught me today that instead I need to trust her to take care of me. God wants us to trust Him in that same way. We get scared and try to control everything ourselves when we only need to let Him lead the way.

2) Later in the day, I was reviewing "Touch" with my dog Griffin which is a precursor to "Come". He decided to also show "offered attention" which means he looked and came to me even when I didn't ask him to. I don't treat for this but do give verbal praise. This exercise made me wonder how much attention we give to those around us. It is so easy for us to get caught up in our own world and not notice others. We shouldn't have to wait for someone to ask for help before we offer it but that is usually what happens.

We can all be thankful for what our animals teach us. What have they taught you today?

Our animals are quite entertaining at times! Griffin still thinks our guinea pigs and horse are his playmates and they're not in agreement but he's learning that they like him better when he's just watching them. More animal training experience for me. 🤪

If anyone else is struggling introducing their horse or dog to other pets I might be able to help.

Introducing the "Focus" command. I recommend you start this on a short leash but it was easier to demo on a long leash and Griffin is getting really good at it!

This photo is for anyone who thinks I don't mean the literal woods when I say we live in the woods. 🤣 We couldn't be more happy with our farm and I've found no better therapy than enjoying God's creation on horseback. If you want to bring your family out to experience it for yourself please check out leggeleadnleashlessons.com.
