“A good death should not be on the worst day. It should be on their last best day.” - Helen St. Pierre

In her talk at the Aggression in Dogs Conference, Helen St. Pierre reminded us that end of life care is not just about avoiding pain, but about preserving dignity, joy, and presence right up until the very end.

Her work with senior and hospice dogs shows us what it means to truly honor the lives in our care, not only by giving them a good life, but by ensuring they also have a good death.

Conversations like these are difficult, but they are necessary. They help us do better for the dogs and families we support.

Rest easy, sweet girl 💕🕊️

Back in July, I had the honor of capturing an end-of-life session with sweet Coco. 🐾 She was surrounded by so much love, and it was clear how deeply cherished she was by her family.

Today, her momma let me know that Coco has crossed the rainbow bridge. 🌈 My heart goes out to them as they had to say goodbye to their loyal friend.

Coco, you were more than just a pup....you were family, comfort, and unconditional love wrapped up in soft fur and soulful eyes. May you run free, happy and healthy, on the other side. ❤️

Celebrating the Life of The Commodore Ehinger
“Comet”
October 2011 – September 12, 2025

Raise a beer (and maybe a plate of scrambled eggs) for the one and only Comet, The Commodore Ehinger. Born in October 2011 and adopted from the Steuben County Shelter the week before Christmas, Comet was one of five in his festive litter—Dasher, Dancer, Prantzer, and Vixen were fine, but let’s be real: Comet was the star.

Comet’s life mission? Chase anything with wheels and claim every Jeep and golf cart ride as his own. He also took his duties as an air-defense commander seriously, barking and “chasing” F-16s across the yard like it was his personal battlefield. His three-acre kingdom was his pride, his fortress, and his playground. And if you dared enter, you’d quickly learn: this was Comet’s house.

He was a legend in every way—part troublemaker, part sweetheart. With three official biting offenses on record, (not proud, Com!) a reputation for leg-humping, and food-stealing skills that rivaled a magician, Comet kept everyone on their toes. He had an uncanny ability to know the exact moment you tried to sneak out of bed, and he never missed a chance to be touching his people—whether curled up in sleep or holding court under the desk.

He loved his beer. He loved his scrambled eggs. He loved his family most of all. The most loyal member one could ask for.

Comet was the most handsome, softest, whitest pup in the world, and no one will ever convince us otherwise. He leaves behind his human parents and sister, who will miss him fiercely, but also smile knowing he’s now reunited with loved ones—probably handing out puppy kisses and ruling the golf carts in heaven.

Long live the legend. We love you, Com.

🕊️In Loving Memory 🕊️

At Serenity Mobile, it is our deepest honor to walk with families through one of the most tender moments of love — saying goodbye. This past July, we had the privilege of helping these beloved companions cross the Rainbow Bridge peacefully, surrounded by those who loved them most.

🌈 Planning Ahead: A Loving Gift for Your Pet and Yourself 🐾

As pet parents, we hope we never have to say goodbye. But when that time does come, having a plan in place can ease stress and allow you to focus on what matters most—being present with your beloved companion.

✨ Pre-planning euthanasia and aftercare means:
1. Saying goodbye in the most peaceful way possible
2. Reducing stress and anxiety for you and your pet in their final days
3. Ensuring your wishes are honored with dignity and compassion
4. Giving yourself time to grieve, not scramble with decision making.

At Nature’s Way, we walk alongside you through every step, offering guidance, options, and comfort when you need it most. 💛
Your pet gave you their whole heart. Planning ahead is a way to return that love.

🌈 June Farewell Tribute 🌈
As we step into a new month, we pause to honor the beloved companions we helped say goodbye to in June. Each one was deeply loved, and it was our privilege to provide them with peace, comfort, and dignity in their final moments.

To the families who trusted us during one of the hardest days — thank you. Your love and care were evident in every goodbye, and it was an honor to walk beside you.

We lovingly remember:
🐾Remington, Ron, Bear, Shadow, Jackson, Nicko, Nalla, Ginny, Ivy, Pepper, Peanut, Scout, Coty, Bailey, Apollo, Remmy, Jax, Clarence, Cheerio, Kado, Bully, Sadie, Belle, Chloe, Blitzen, Carter, Cai, Dart, Bristol, Socks, Leo, Mia, Tiger Lily, and Luther

Each of these pets left pawprints on hearts that will never be the same — and that’s a beautiful legacy.

Please feel free to share a photo or a favorite memory of you and your pets who have gained their wings in the comments. Together, we remember them. 💛

📸🐾 The Bittersweet Beauty of End-of-Life Pet Photos 🐾📸

As a veterinarian, I’ve walked alongside many families during both the joyful and the heartbreaking moments of their pets’ lives. One thing I hear far too often after a beloved pet passes is: “I wish I had taken more photos… especially near the end.”

End-of-life photo sessions may carry an underlying sadness—but they can also be a celebration of a life filled with unconditional love, wet kisses, wagging tails, and quiet companionship. These photos can capture the soul of your pet, the bond you share, and the peace that comes with being surrounded by love, even in their final days.

Many hesitate to schedule these sessions because they fear it means giving up hope; but the truth is, taking photos doesn’t change your pet’s prognosis—it only captures the love you already have. Whether it’s a day, a month, or a year left, documenting your time together doesn’t bring the end any sooner. It just honors the life that’s been so beautifully lived.

The hard truth is, we’re all dying. But we’re also living—right now, in this moment. So why not capture that joy while we can?

If you’re on the fence about taking these kinds of photos with your pet, I gently encourage you to consider it. You may find it’s not just about saying goodbye… it’s about saying thank you.

🩷🐶🐾 Let’s celebrate and document their story while we still can.

Special thank you to our talented and wonderful partners at Larson Photography for providing these complimentary end of life sessions for our clients 🩷 They are truly amazing people and dedicated animal lovers themselves. We are so grateful to be able to work alongside them 🫶🏻
