Yesterday I had to make the decision. The decision that no pet owner ever wants to make but knows in their heart that it’s the last gift that you will ever give to them - the gift of dignity. As much as I would have done or paid any amount of money in this world to keep you alive, I know that the life you would have lived would not have been enough for you. It gutted my heart to see the spirit leave from your eyes and be replaced with the dull light of the dog you once were.
Haley, I am sorry humans failed you. Your owners packed their bags and went on vacation, dropped you at boarding and never came back for you. Who does that?? My friend. Mindi Abbotoy at Paws Crossed Inc picked you up from the boarding facility and called me. You were 14 years old, cataracts coming into both eyes, a bit hard of hearing, maybe incontinent maybe not, I told them to bring you to me, this is where you belong.
Come to find out you were never house broken, so we got you on a schedule and most of the time you were good. And if you weren’t, who cared. You fit right in with all the other dogs, for 14 months everything was great, then it wasn’t. You started to struggle, something was off. Off to see the vet only to find out you were in End Stage Renal failure. Just like that, in the blink of an eye you were so very sick.💔
I stroked your head and kissed you while you were falling asleep. With tear filled eyes I sat there as you were taken away, and now I look forward to the next time I see you. But it won’t be too soon, I still have more work to do.🌈
Until we meet again. May all your health and youthfulness be restored now.
I love you Hailey.
Do not mourn my passing for you could only see, by slipping all my earthly bonds.
I’m going again and free.
By day I run the heavenly fields my body healthy and strong, at night I sleep at Angels Feet lulled by Celestial Song.
So do not mourn my passing, just close your eyes, you’ll see I’m once again a proud dog.
Thank you for loving me.
