LEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE CELL DOG PROGRAM

There’s just something about second chances…

In a world where “do-overs” and “mulligans” don’t seem to exist, second chances can be uplifting, often restorative and have steered many a life in a positive direction.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Cell Dog program is an opportunity for both inmates and shelter dogs to learn valuable lessons from one another and to begin again.

The dogs are provided by local shelters and undergo a ten-week basic obedience training course.

Following this structured training, the dogs tend to be extremely sought after by would-be adopters and the inmate-trainers experience unconditional love, learn responsibility for others and discover a great deal about themselves at a critical point in their lives.
