🚨BROWARD animal care, Fort Lauderdale, Florida-Rescue Placement Needed For 'Meleys' (A2479230) - *Please Share Post*🚨🚨

Meet Meleys!
10-Years-Old | 92 Pounds

Melys arrived at the shelter on 8/3/26 as a stray.

Meleys arrived at the shelter as an injured stray. When she arrived, she had a ruptured mass near one of her mammary glands and enlarged lymph nodes.
On August 8, Meleys was spayed and the mass was surgically removed. Testing later confirmed that the mass was a type of skin cancer called dermal hemangiosarcoma. The pathologist found signs that the tumor may have been caused by long-term sun exposure. The entire tumor appeared to have been removed, but one edge was very close to the cancerous tissue. This type of tumor usually has a low risk of spreading when it is related to sun damage, but it can return or additional tumors may develop. Further testing to check whether the cancer has spread and continued veterinary monitoring are recommended. Her surgical incision was later found to be clean and intact. Meleys also tested positive for hookworms and received treatment with Panacur, which needs to be repeated two weeks after the first treatment. More recently, she developed thick discharge from both nostrils and was started on doxycycline through August 28. Staff also noticed drops of blood coming from her v***a. The exact cause has not yet been determined and could include a urinary tract infection, inflammation, a surgical complication or another medical condition. She was given medication to help control the bleeding and was scheduled for a recheck.
Despite everything she has experienced, Meleys has been easy to leash and walk. She does not pull and has shown only mild interest in other dogs as she passes them, without staring, pulling or whining.
Meleys needs transfer placement with a rescue group who can continue her veterinary care, complete any recommended testing and closely monitor her for new or returning medical concerns. Meleys is also available for adoption. Please help us find a safe place for this deserving senior girl.

DEADLINE SEPT 9th ‼️‼️
Meet Peggy! (A2458063)
2-Years-Old | 54 Pounds
Broward County Animal Care

🐾🙏🏻🐾🙏🏻

Peggy arrived at the shelter on 2/6/26 as an owner surrender.

Peggy is available for transfer or adoption and is recommended as the only pet in the home. She has an animal-to-animal bite on record from February 6. Please inquire for additional details regarding the bite before considering placement. Peggy is very people-oriented and frequently seeks attention, affection and belly rubs. She knows “sit” and “paw,” enjoys treats and loves playing with soft toys. She especially enjoyed chasing a toy attached to a makeshift flirt pole and remained highly engaged with her handler. She has also been observed relaxing peacefully in the sunshine with a toy without attempting to destroy it. Peggy has shown a noticeable increase in kennel stress over time. Earlier observations described her as easier to handle, but more recently she has experienced periods of excessive barking, forceful jumping, heavy drooling, soiling her kennel and snapping toward hands through the kennel door. She may resist moving between sides of her kennel during cleaning, and staff have sometimes needed to leash her and walk her around. Her stress appears to be especially intense during the morning.
Her behavior can look very different once she is away from the kennel. On calmer days, Peggy is easy to leash, walks without pulling, uses the bathroom outside and returns to her kennel without difficulty. She has played calmly in the yard and remained relaxed when other dogs passed nearby. After eating, exercising or receiving her prescribed medication, she is often able to settle and remain quiet in her kennel. When highly excited or stressed, Peggy may jump forcefully and repeatedly toward her handler. She has occasionally become mouthy while being unleashed, and staff have sometimes used a double-leash setup or assistance from a second person. Her behavior has improved on some days, but the shelter environment continues to be difficult for her and her stress level can change quickly. Medically speaking she is fully vetted and ready for her forever home. Peggy needs an experienced, patient home where she can decompress away from the kennel environment. She should be the only pet and will require calm handling, structure and continued support while she adjusts.

**Peggy must receive a commitment by EOD Wednesday September 9, 2026**

Placement Needed For Male Yorkshire Terrier 'Marco' (A2479889) - *Please Share Post* 🚨🚨 BROWARD animal care, Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Meet Marco!
9-Years-Old | 7 Pounds

Marco arrived at the shelter on 8/24/26 as a stray.

Marco is a male Yorkshire Terrier who arrived at the shelter as a stray. Although he appears to have been recently groomed, Marco is underweight with a body condition score of 3 out of 9. His spine is very visible, and he has hair loss along his spine. He is also missing most of his incisors.
Marco was alert and responsive during his intake examination, and no visible signs of illness were noted. He received routine vaccinations and preventive care at intake. Marco is currently available for as-is transfer to a rescue group. This tiny senior needs a rescue group willing to provide a safe place for him to recover, monitor his condition and continue any veterinary care recommended following his recheck. Please help us find placement for Marco.

🚨🚨8/29 DEADLINE- Broward animal care Fort Lauderdale, Florida🚨🚨 ❤️‍🩹‼️ URGENT MEDICAL Transfer: Injured Mini Schnauzer "Vivian" (A2479888) ‼️❤️‍🩹

Vivian!
5-Years-Old | 14 Pounds

This little one came to us from an emergency vet hospital. She was found by a good Samaritan yesterday wounded and lying in the middle of the road 😔

On top of her head, she has two small puncture wounds. She has a large degloving injury on her right side, as well. It is suspected the poor sweetheart was hit by a car or possibly attacked by an animal.

Vivian is not currently ambulatory, but she is under some pain medication that may be impacting her ability to properly walk. The vets at the emergency hospital also detected possible p***c fractures.

Vivian does have a microchip, though it is unregistered. Her stray period ends EOD Saturday, 8/29.

*She may go to a transfer partner for observation and pain management during her stray period, but should an owner come to reclaim her, she must be returned to the shelter to be reunited.*

For more information about transferring Vivian, please contact us at: [email protected]

Meet Comet, Asteroid, and Meteor! (K26-255663)
4-6-Months-Old | 10-23 Pounds

These stinky kiddos came in this afternoon and were confirmed to have demodectic mange.

They are all a bit shy but friendly and ready to get some TLC outside of the shelter with the help of a trusty transfer partner.

*Their stray period is over at end-of-business on Wednesday, 8/26.*

For more information about transferring these babies, please contact us at: [email protected]

🚨🚨BROWARD ANIMAL CARE- FORT LAUDERDALE FL🚨🚨 ‼️‼️ Mama Dog + Neonates needs Rescue

Meet Venus & Her 5 Babies! (K26-255657)
2-Years-Old (+ 6-Days-Old) | 35 Pounds

Mama Venus and her planetary brood (Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune) were found in an empty residence and were brought to the shelter this afternoon.

Venus has been such a trooper with our clinic and field teams. She came to us flea infested but otherwise healthy and taking excellent care of her little solar system who all have nice, fat tummies.

The shelter is not an ideal environment for a nursing mom to comfortably and safely raise her puppies in, and she would much prefer a transfer partner come give her a hand.

*Venus’ stray period is over at end-of-business on Wednesday, 8/26.*
