Wow! The Alpine, Texas Farmers Market made it into AAA's Online magazine AND they list Anvil and Apron as a "MUST TRY" along with Silver Wings Mobile Bar & Events!

They open the article with "Here are nine of the best markets to tap into that agricultural bounty." and Alpine's in #3!

They also namecheck the wonderful Togley's Treats and the McDonald Observatory.

We are so proud to be a part of the wonderful community of vendors!

------

"The Off The Rails Band serenades shoppers perusing this compact assortment of vendors at the Alpine Visitor Center. Anywhere from 15 to 20 merchants sell pottery, produce, native plants, sauces, and baked goods, including all-natural doggy delicacies from Togley’s Treats. Special programs include fruit- and vegetable-carving sessions, wildlife weekends, and dark-sky education courtesy of McDonald Observatory.

Must try: Lemonade from Silver Wings and fluffy focaccia from Anvil and Apron, which sometimes fires up a Dutch oven for cooking demos. "

You asked and we heard you!

After numerous requests we now have QUARTS of our delicious pasta sauce at the Alpine, Texas Farmers Market!

That’s right- Slow simmered herbaceous tomato sauce perfect for pasta!

The tomato, originally from the Americas, was introduced to Europe in the 16th century. When it first arrived in Italy, it was thought to be toxic, it took some time before it was embraced by the locals.

The name is derived from the Aztec "xitomatl"

By the 18th century, tomatoes had secured their place in Italian kitchens. Regional variations began to emerge. In Naples, the earliest recorded tomato sauce recipes were penned.

Spring is here and weaving its way through everything coming out of our kitchen.

For this homestyle Sunday post we made Roast chicken with herbs from the greenhouse — oregano, thyme, and tarragon — paired with local vegetables from Alpine, Texas that are still just a little winter-coded in the best way. Savoy cabbage, marinated and tossed with slow-cooked local red onions and sesame seeds, brings a bright flavor that still whispers of cool spring evenings.

On the side: farfalle pasta in herb butter with chive flowers, simple and satisfying in the way good spring food should be.

Seasonal menus like this are one of our favorite things to build for gatherings, weddings, private dinners, and celebrations around Far West Texas.

Food should taste like the season you’re in with ingredients from the places and people around us.
