We've experienced a lot of loss this year at the rescue. So, as I lay awake last night, crying over the most recent loss of our beautiful Bailey girl, I couldn't help but think of when I was told in Catholic School that animals don't have souls. I was even ridiculed for believing they do have souls.
No matter what anyone said. After volunteering with rescues for 34 years, I've seen and believe with my entire being, that they do. I've felt their little souls slipping away when their mission was done here on earth. I've seen their energy release from a depleted body. Really think about it. Why would the Creator make something so pure of heart with no malice, to become our companion, best friend, life or mentality support and sometimes make us feel like they're our child / family? Every action an animal does is a direct result of how people have treated it or interfered in its life. Humans have taken everything from them. More species go extinct everyday. We build on their land then get mad when they don't know where else to go. Hunt them for trophies. Kidnap their babies. Force them to breed for fur or food or status. Test all kinds of drugs, cosmetics and a myriad of other poisonous things on them knowing 99% of that is unnecessary and will not translate to the way people will react.
But, we can go to heaven and they can't? Because if we're truly sorry for our sins, God will forgive us and give us a seat at the table? But, the most innocent, loving, understanding among us are not guaranteed a "happily ever after" when they die? If I can't see the best things to ever have come into my life again, just send me to Hell. Atleast they have Hounds there. What do you think?
