My friend Scott invited me to hunt with him at a private club in Illinois after Cristmas
I brought Freya along, not sure what to expect since she frequently misses training and hunting seasons due to her pregnancies.
Well, she reminded me of what a joy she is to hunt behind! She was paired with an English setter and those two covered ground like no other! They honored each other’s points, she relocated on moving birds and retrieved like the finished gun dog she really is.
If you put the time and training into a well bred dog, this is what you are rewarded with.
Freya has consistently produced exceptional puppies and will be having her last litter in early 2026. I look forward to many more years of hunting behind her.

Shotgun Rider’s Darwin learning patience on a tie out and hanging out with his mom Freya so I can get yard work done.

Shotgun Rider’s Darwin working his first track/drag. He’s almost 11 weeks.
I prefer to use food or fur, in this case a rabbit. He’s never seen or smelled a rabbit before. I want him to focus on a scent trail with the ‘find it’ command, not run off searching. Lots of distractions in the yard and I gently lead him back towards the trail when he wanders off.
I might do this one more time before he heads to his new home but I’m very happy with his work here.

The lone princess, Ms Pink, has left the nest for her new home in northern Minnesota. Shotgun Rider’s Diana is joining a full house with 3 kids and 2 dogs. She loves attention so I’m sure she will be loving life in the north woods with her busy family.

Shotgun Rider’s Dundee headed to sunny California on Tuesday. He was so good on the flight, the passenger next to him didn’t even know there was a puppy onboard. He joins a hunting family who’s owned an SM before so I know he’s in good hands.

Mr Brown left this weekend, heading to MN with his new family. This boy LOVES to be outside and many nights we had to carry him back in the house for bedtime. Shotgun Rider’s Dugan already looks settled in.

Mr White has settled into his new home with a wonderful family just down the road. He joins an older SM brother he can learn from too. Shotgun Rider’s Darby, now called Monty.

Shotgun Rider’s Dax is heading to the Seattle area for his next big adventure. Safe travels sweet boy!

First vet visit for everyone. They were very good, only one thought it was a good time to scream like a toddler who lost their favorite binky
(not naming names) lol!
In this pix, they saw another dog whining at them and everyone was still for a few minutes.

Look at these 2 cuties! Or did you only see 1 puppy?
Mr Blue and Mr White have very similar markings for now. Mr White is dark roan and much of his white collar will darken as he grows up.

Meet Mr Red
He was 3rd born and just under 1 # at birth. He has a brown and white coat that is thick and soft, and he’ll likely keep his markings as he gets older.
He was one of the first to try goat milk and to really enjoy it. Now when I bring a saucer of food in, no matter where he is in the box, his nose is in the air and he comes over to lap it up. He is a busy boy, loves to play with his siblings and can be a little vocal when trying to settle down to sleep.
