Update: Rescued

This gorgeous mama and her four tiny puppies just found themselves surrendered to the shelter. A loud, stressful shelter environment is incredibly dangerous for a nursing mom and her vulnerable, unvaccinated babies. They need a rescue!

She is being such a good mom to her little ones but you can see the worry in her eyes. She is exhausted, confused, and trying her best to keep her babies safe.

They are completely out of options and need our help to get out of the shelter so they can grow up safe and loved.

What they need:

🛟 A RESCUE COMMITMENT: We are asking local rescues to please consider pulling this beautiful family.

Every single SHARE helps them get seen by the right person. Please tag rescues and networkers in the comments! Let’s get this mama and her babies out of there! 🐾❤️

Sound the alarm! 🚨🐾 We just saw the official badge, and Ferris Animal Services is beyond thrilled to report that one of the survivors from our recent Ellis County hoarding case has secured the ultimate gig.

He may not be a Dalmatian, and his "stop, drop, and roll" is strictly for belly rubs, but he's officially been adopted by the Mansfield Texas Fire Department!

Everyone, meet Lieutenant Lieu (officially clocked in as Firefighter 5294), the department's newly minted Mental Health Officer. 🩺🚒

We hear his official duties include prescribing mandatory cuddle sessions, providing emergency tail-wags, and sounding the alarm whenever a cheese wrapper opens in the breakroom.

Pulling dogs out of a massive hoarding situation is essentially a five-alarm fire of its own. We have to give major props to the crew at American Humane for throwing on their boots, jumping straight into the trenches, and doing the heavy lifting right alongside us.

Once the smoke cleared, the Mansfield Animal Shelter and SMASh - Supporting Mansfield Animal Shelter - Mansfield Texas stepped up big time ensuring Lieu and his brother landed in incredible spots!

A huge thank you to City of Mansfield, Texas Municipal Government and his new firefighter family for giving the LT a spectacular forever home. We know the crew's mental health is in excellent paws. Stay safe out there, Lieutenant! ❤️🐕

ERROR 404: Fierce Guard Dog Mode Not Found 🛑🐶

Meet Thunder and Lightning. We’re pretty sure someone hit Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V on the printer, but accidentally unselected the "Majestic Working Dog" software. Instead, they came pre-loaded with the "Professional Belly Rub Receiver" and "Synchronized Derp" updates.

These 1-year-old brothers completely missed the memo on how to be intimidating German Shepherds. They currently share a single brain cell, and they use it exclusively to figure out who gets to lean against us harder for ear scratches.

But in all seriousness, behind the goofy head tilts and giant floppy tongues, these two are survivors. They came to us from that massive dog hoarding case here in Ellis County. After everything they've been through, they simply decided that being giant, happy goofs was the best revenge.

Now, we just need a rescue to pull them so they can take their comedy tour on the road!

If your rescue has room for two giant lap dogs who are convinced they weigh 10 pounds, please email [email protected].

🚨 LOCAL DRAMA UPDATE: We've been told to play nice. 🚨

Alright, let’s address the elephant…. or rather, the three-legged dog in the room. We accidentally ruffled a few feathers with our last post. Our bad! We forgot that municipal red tape and full kennels since 2021 are sacred topics.

So, let’s try this again with 100% fewer political casualties and a little more diplomatic grace.
Here is the completely sanitized, totally peaceful recap:

The legendary Dr. Tommy Menser gave an incredible 46 years of his life to veterinary medicine in Waxahachie. When he passed, his family who already has many of their own animals needed a spot for a few (not all) of his final personal rescues. Due to the tragic local shortage of... well, space... those rescues needed a Plan B.

Enter Ferris Animal Services.

Are our kennels full? Absolutely. Are we running on caffeine, vibes, and sheer stubbornness? You bet. But when a 46-year debt of honor lands on your doorstep, you don't check the city boundary map before opening the door. You just find a way to make it work.

Insert Thumper:
He’s a Boxer mix, and missing a leg hasn't slowed down his personality for a single second. He is the ultimate friendly good boy, packed with all that classic, goofy Boxer charm. He’s the kind of dog who greets you with a full-body wiggle, treats everyone like his new best friend, and has absolutely zero idea that he’s short a limb.
Thumper doesn’t have a LinkedIn profile, so he doesn't really grasp "city jurisdictions" or "PR damage control." He just knows the man who saved his life isn't walking through that door, and he’s currently relying on Ferris to find him a couch.

So, let's channel all that spicy comment-section energy into something useful like getting this boy adopted. No hard feelings, just a little neighborly teamwork.

• ADOPT OR FOSTER: Thumper is friendly, incredibly resilient, and promises not to bring up local zoning laws at the dinner table. Let’s get him onto a soft rug.

• RESCUE PARTNERS: If your rescue has an open spot and wants to help us carry the torch for the Doctor's legacy, please reach out to us directly at [email protected].

Shoutout to everyone focusing on getting Dr. Menser's favorite boy into a real home. Team Thumper starts now.

Turning a desperate situation into a life-saving mission requires swift action, immense compassion, and incredible partners. A huge thank you to RedRover for answering our call and deploying your team to Ellis County. We are incredibly grateful for your partnership and everything you do! 🐾💙

We are so grateful to have been a part of the massive effort in Ellis County, Texas to bring more than 125 dogs from crisis to care. 🐾 FOX 4 News reported on the story.

When a situation is this overwhelming, it takes a compassionate community coming together to ensure every animal is protected. We were honored to join forces with American Humane and local advocates to provide the momentum needed for this mission.

As local official McGehee shared:
"When the weight of their suffering began to exceed our local resources, we knew we had to call in the best." Adding, "Partnering with RedRover and American Humane allowed us to turn a desperate situation into a rescue mission."

Seeing nearly all of these animals now on their way to long-term placement partners is a beautiful reminder of what we can achieve when we work together. Thank you for supporting RedRover and making these large-scale rescues possible!

When we stepped up to help these final 75 dogs out of inhumane living conditions we knew it was going to take an absolute village.

Today, the City of Ferris Animal Services and Flying B Animal Rescue & Sanctuary want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to every single organization, professional, and volunteer who stood shoulder-to-shoulder with us.

From having boots on the ground, providing exceptional care through your dedicated rescue team, managing transport and the shelter, to generously covering critical expenses; you did everything possible to ensure these dogs were safe. We absolutely could not have managed an operation of this magnitude without your team's unwavering support and dedication.

• RedRover: A huge thank you to your incredible team for stepping in when we needed it most. Your assistance was invaluable in getting everything set up, and the tireless hours you spent cleaning, caring for, and socializing these animals made a world of difference in helping them decompress and learn to trust again.

• An enormous, individual shoutout to our Ferris Animal Services VIP Volunteers: Clayton, Darlene, Tiffany, Prescilla, Karla, Pam, and Lori. When we needed help the most, you all stepped up big time to support the shelter and our staff. Your dedication is the heartbeat of this operation!

🏛️ Ferris City Leadership:
• A sincere thank you to our City Management for standing behind us throughout this massive rescue. Taking on an operation of this scale wouldn't have been possible without your continuous support, which gave us the exact foundation we needed to make this life-saving mission a reality.

It takes a community to change the world for all of these dogs, and we are so incredibly proud of ours. Thank you all for helping us bring love, healing, and a second chance to these deserving animals! ❤️🐶

We want to extend a massive thank you to Saving Hope Rescue for stepping up in such a huge way during this critical rescue operation.

As Saving Hope mentioned, their biggest need right now is fosters. If you have room in your heart and home to help one of these resilient dogs transition to a better life, please reach out to them.

If you thought Mia’s story was an isolated incident, you were wrong.

A Decade of Service Should Not End at a Closed Door

Dr. Tommy Menser of Menser Veterinary Clinic was more than a veterinarian. He was an animal lover, a shelter supporter, and a voice for the voiceless.

For 10 years, Dr. Menser served as the primary veterinarian for the Waxahachie animal shelter. He gave his time, his skill, and his heart to the animals of that city.

When Dr. Menser passed away, he left behind several dogs at his clinic that he had personally rescued from the streets of Waxahachie -Thunder, Girlfriend, and Phoebe.

In a time of grief, his family reached out to the same city shelter he had served for a decade and asked for help.

According to the family, the shelter said they could not help.

That is hard to understand.

A man who spent 10 years helping a city shelter deserved better. His family deserved better. And the animals he rescued deserved better.

Ferris Animal Services is currently in the middle of a large scale 75 dog hoarding case in Ellis County. We are stretched thin. Space is limited. Our team is carrying a heavy load.

But when we heard about these dogs, we could not ignore them.

Dr. Menser spent his life saying yes to animals that needed him.

So Ferris said yes to his.

Meet his final rescued dogs:

Thunder — a sweet, resilient three-legged Boxer mix who does not let anything slow him down.

Girlfriend — a gentle white Great Pyrenees with a soft heart and calm spirit.

Phoebe — a friendly, easygoing black-and-white Bully who just wants love and a safe place to land.

All three are sweet, friendly, and deserving of homes that honor the compassion of the man who saved them first.

Now we need help.

Please share. Tag rescues. Reach out if you can foster, adopt, or help with placement for Thunder, Girlfriend, Phoebe, or any of the dogs currently in our care.

Dr. Menser gave a decade of service to shelter animals.

The least we can do is make sure his rescued dogs are not forgotten.

To support the ongoing care, vetting, and placement of Dr. Menser's rescues and the other animals we are fighting for alongside our partners at Flying B Animal Rescue & Sanctuary, please consider making a donation today.

These dogs were living in neglect, having litter after litter, and waiting for someone to step in.

Before this became a large rescue operation, Ferris Animal Services and Flying B Animal Rescue & Sanctuary had already saved at least 30 different dogs from these same homes.

But the need became too big for one small shelter and rescue to carry alone.

The numbers kept growing. The conditions kept getting worse. Calls for help were made, but some organizations with far greater resources did not step in.

So Ferris and Flying B kept pushing.

Then American Humane and RedRover answered the call.

Together, with Ferris Animal Services, Flying B, American Humane, RedRover, volunteers, donors, and incredible rescue partners like Saving Hope Rescue , 75 more dogs were given a chance at safety.

This is what happens when people stop talking and start acting.

But these dogs still need help.
They need donations.
They need supplies.
They need fosters.
They need adopters.
They need rescue placement.
They need people willing to care.
