It’s been a whirlwind of a month and we’ve had so much going on, we haven’t had a chance to post updates from it all. 🌼One of the things we did at our farm recently is a seed saving and plant propagation class. It was held on Mother’s Day, which we didn’t intentionally plan that way, but it ended up being perfect bc the class was all about making plant babies. 🌱🌱🌱

The class was so much fun! If you missed it and want to join next time, we hope to do it again in the fall. 🌻Cristen will also be teaching the topic of seed saving and plant propagation as part of their Permaculture Design Course.

Our garden is an ever-evolving, shape-shifting canvas and it’s been happily soaking up all the rain this season. What a different spring this has been! 🌸 And after a very busy season, we’ve been taking more time to love on the space and enjoy all the little surprises.

We’re crazy about our plants! 😀Or maybe from our plants. Either way, we have plants! All homegrown by us. 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱See y’all...

⭐️Our propagation class is coming up this Sunday, May 10!⭐️

When we scheduled this class, we didn’t realize it was on Mother’s Day. But that’s kind of perfect bc you will learn to be a plant mother!

In this hands-on workshop, we’ll explore the science and magic of seed saving and plant propagation. We’ll go on a guided walk around the garden, harvesting seeds and learning various techniques for making more plants from what’s growing around you. Participants will leave with seeds, cuttings, and the skills and knowledge to build more biodiversity in their space. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

We had such a great time hosting this week.

We gave a garden tour as we talked about our approach to gardening in Central Texas, permaculture, soil building, and some of the food and medicine we’re cultivating. We also tucked some lemon balm plants into the garden and sang a song to our live oak tree with a bird friend who joined along. ❤️It was a lovely day. ☀️Thanks to all who came and brought their energy to our space. 🙏🏽🌱✨

Cristen began her herbal journey at the Wildflower School, completing the clinical herbalism program in 2017 under the guidance of Nicole Telkes and other experienced herbalists. Some of her dearest friends (plants and people) came from this school, and it feels like a special, full-circle moment to now be stewarding land and welcoming herb schools to our space so they can connect with the plants and each other.

🌻Wildflower Herb School teaches holistic western herbal medicine and has in-person and online courses for whenever you are on your herbal journey. Check out their offerings at wildflowerherbschool.com

🌼We (Small Town Farm) offer various pathways for connecting with the plants. You can find us at the San Marcos Farmer’s Market on Saturdays with our homegrown plant babies, herbal offerings, & seeds to share. We also have upcoming events on our website at smalltownfarm.com

Herb Day was such a blast! It turned out to be a gorgeous day, which everyone was super grateful for☀️🙏🏽❤️ And we love our community of plant people SO much. It’s truly something special, and this gathering was the perfect reminder of that. 🌼🌻🌸

Didn’t get many photos, but only because I was constantly busy chatting with fellow herb nerds. Here are just a few moments from the day.

Also got to scoop up some new plant babies from the epic plant sale. Can’t keep a gardener and herb nerd away from new herbs they don’t have in their garden yet. 😀Got some selfheal, feverfew, Korean mint, zi wan, Provence lavender, and clary sage. Excited to get to know them. 🌱🌱🌱🌱

See ya’ll at Herb Day this weekend! 🌸🌻🌼🐝🦋🌳

We had such a fun time teaching our seasonal gardening class recently. Thank you to all the wonderful people who came to spend the day with us and bring their energy. 🙏🏽✨🌱We talked about spring gardening, soil building, seed saving, site assessment, and did a garden tour while we shared resources and big-picture principles that can be applied to everyone’s unique space.

We love teaching and hosting gatherings and believe that this is what the world needs right now — more people coming together, sharing their skills, and tending to their spaces in a heart-centered, life-nurturing way.

Our next class will be in a couple of weeks - on Mother’s Day! And it’ll be all about seed saving, seed starting, and plant propagation. You can sign up via our website at smalltownfarm.com/events

Spring is a time for abundance! 🌼And we were waiting for things to dry up a bit before we got back to harvesting our herbs.

We have lots of medicinal plants in the garden right now, and they’ll be making their way into our teas and other herbal offerings. ✨We grew all these babies from seed, so it’s a full circle seed to cup experience. ❤️
