Proudly offering "Waylon" Ramblin' Man - 5y/o 14.1hh AQHA-cross - Extraordinary Hunter/Jumper & Dressage Prospect

Waylon is very bright and way ahead of schedule - he absorbs knowledge like a sponge! Super athletic with fabulous gaits and a great mind to boot, he is jumping full courses, offers green lead changes, and is beginning to school First and Second Level concepts like counter-canter, shoulder-in, and canter-walk. He also hacks out and is always on his best behavior. Everything feels very natural for him.

Capable such that a professional could show and take up the levels, trainable such that an AA or JR/YR in a program could excel with him quickly.

From a small, boutique, classical riding-based, family-operated program.

Reasonably listed. Milford, MI. Contact CJ Carpenter (586)322-2102

Being both a rider and an artist - I have noticed a relationship between the Art of Horsemanship and other art forms:

You must never try to copy your neighbor.

Even if you manage to exactly recreate another artist's work - you will not achieve the same soul behind the work. You will not make the same mistakes, your hands have different anatomies, your voice has unique characteristics. Your influences and life experiences are different. Their work is so powerful because they weren't thinking about how they wanted their art to look/sound/feel - they were just doing it in the moment and allowing it to flow - mistakes and all.

Your horse's mind & body and your mind & body are unique. You both have unique anatomy, fears, desires, strengths, thoughts, injuries, experiences, chemical balance, malformations.... and the chemistry between you is unique.

Yes - a certain "frame" might be trendy. A particular brand of saddle/bridle/bit might be popular. A certain training aid might be well-established in your discipline. A particular person might be famous, a training system might be widespread, one part of the industry might be more powerful than the other.

But the single thing that will get you to where you want to go without never-ending tension, injuries, spooking, pain, changing this, changing that, is:

Listen to your horse.

Notice when he feels relaxed. Notice where he holds his tension. Try different things and experiment with techniques. Poke and prod around. Challenge him and don't look for perfection. Give him some freedom. Break up patterns and routine. Laugh at him. Turn inward and find where your weaknesses are.

Just do it. Don't try to make it "look" a certain way. Experiment and reward positive actions.

Enjoy the ride.

Congratulations to Phyllis N. on her purchase of "Barrett" Have a Cigar, our baroque liver chestnut mustang out of the Stinking Water HMA.

To celebrate, TruBlu Equestrian has donated to American Wild Horse Conservation, an organization focused on keeping American wild horses safely wild and integrated into the North American ecosystems. We hope that for many years to come, we can watch wild horses roam free. Barrett is a fabulous example of an animal produced by our wild herds.

Check out Barrett's listing here, and keep an eye out for more great horses coming soon to the TruBlu program: https://trubluequestrian.com/barrett-have-a-cigar

Both horse and rider should develop extensive emotional regulation and self-soothing skills.

Often, I will see pairs where neither horse nor rider will know how to simply allow emotions to flow right through them without physically reacting to them. These pairs are often seemingly pitted against each other - never able to actually just enjoy their time together.

The biggest breakthroughs don't come from a change of bit, footing, breeches, or any other "fix." The times I've seen pairs "click" is when the rider initiates emotional regulation and space to "breathe." Moments of release and quietly turning inward must be found before moving forward.

Excerpt from the journal of CJ Carpenter:

"You can solve almost all the problems you have with your horse's basic locomotion by conquering it in the walk first.

Walk is the most natural gait for a horse, and the one they spend the most time in by far. Because it is also the slowest gait, with the slowest footfalls, it is easier for both horse and rider to process information and problem solve. There is no moment of suspension in the walk, so balance issues are much easier to solve when you're both not worried about where to put body parts while you're hanging in the air.

Keep the walk pure and strengthen the walk. Return to the walk constantly during your journey, and continue to improve it. Above all - Forward First!"

Excerpt from the journal of CJ Carpenter:

"In the end, the horses will always know if we are hiding something. They will sense anything we are trying to conceal. They are prey animals, and they naturally hate 'black holes.'

So if you are feeling sad, anxious, scared, miserable, weak, etc. when you get on - don't try to hide it. Lay it all out on the table. Be honest with what you're working with that day. Tell the horse - with your intention and your breath - what are you are feeling and why. Horses are amazing co-regulators if you let them be. You can help each other this way.

Throw out the idea of stoicism and clean professionalism - the horse doesn't understand that language. They speak in the Language of Energy only."
