We are wrapping up our Horses for Mental Health Spring Support Drive with Zoetis Equine.

While I started working on the wrap-up, I got an email and text from our Vet, Dr. Mahar, of Mac's Landing Veterinary Services with this video.

We really lean into the NPR model of fundraising, and work to wrap things up, and lean into gratitude as we end a "pledge drive," so we can return our listeners to regularly scheduled programming.

However, I think we'll make an exception tonight, as it still includes a heaping serving of gratitude, but also a compelling reminder that Herd Support is a year-round effort.

We met Mac's Landing in 2007, and the entire team has been instrumental in our herd's health and our growth as caretakers. All the way through the team, they show compassion, care, and expertise.

We're so grateful they're in our herd, and Dr. Mahar sharing her support through this video means a lot. Our HMH page will be taking donations through the end of the week, and our Herd Support page, which invites you to sponsor any horse or the whole herd, is up year-round.

Whether you give with dollars or rooting interest, now or later - your support helps our herd help others.

We'll be back with more thanks and details from an amazing support drive.

Thanks to our team of volunteers, animals and supporters.

And THANK YOU, MAC'S LANDING!

We are so moved by your support that comes in so many ways. Our herd has so many friends and relationships, from far and near.

They get to visit with and share energy with different people every day, who come to muck, connect, and support - no matter the weather.

We just received a Herd Sponsorship donation to sponsor Freya for 2026. This direct support for the herd is essential to us, as spring and summer bring significant hurdles to providing care. We are so grateful.

Each of the horses brings unique energy, personality, and gifts to the circle. When we met Freya, she didn't have much reason to believe there was a circle, a herd with belonging, unconditional love, and acceptance.

Freya's story is deep, messy, and imperfect. It includes heartbreaking trauma and endearing triumph. While she has found her path to thriving, we have learned from her. She has deepened our awareness of connection, communication, consent, and empathy, and we are forever changed.

Thank you, Julie, for being there -- for her and with her. 🐓 ā™„ļø

Today's update brings our Horses for Mental Health Spring Support total to just under $28,000, with a few days left.

We are incredibly moved by your support.

If you missed out on the auction at our Porch Party this month (or regret not placing a bid on something), you have another opportunity with the Second Chance Auction! This includes items that remain from the Porch Party-- like the Winter Weekend Getaway at Old Pike Cottages-- and some new ones thrown in for good measure. Additionally, we still have gorgeous art from Saugatuck Douglas Art Club members available for purchase through our Art Gallery. All proceeds benefit our Horses for Mental Health Spring Support Drive at Red Horse Center and help us reach our Mental Health Awareness Month fundraising goal by the rapidly approaching end of May!

If you did attend the Porch Party, we would really appreciate your feedback so that we can make future parties the best experiences possible.

Join us on Saturday, June 6, as we celebrate the 7th Annual Saugatuck–Douglas CommUNITY PRIDE Week, and visit our booth at PRIDE in the Park at Douglas’s Beery Field, where we'll be doing Collaborative Art. The celebration features refreshments, local business vendors, and dancing to iconic 80s hits performed live by Chicago bands Sixteen Candles and Hello Weekend.

Whether you are part of the LGBTQIA+ community or an ally, everybody is welcome at CommUNITY PRIDE events. It's a joyful reminder that all people, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression, deserve to feel seen, safe, valued, included, celebrated, equal, and proud.

Hi all -

Sharing a video that talks about Herd Support. It's a funding (& spending) program that provides care, health, and wellness to our herd of four-legged cofacilitators.

We just had our annual vet visit with spring vaccinations, dental care, and overall wellness checks. We have the chiropractor coming out soon, and we'll be filling the barn with hay soon!

There's a separate link from our HMH Campaign to donate to the herd specifically, and you can sponsor a specific horse, or all of 'em. No gift is too small, and it all counts towards our HMH total.

(My apologies for the windy/rough audio on this. You'd think I'd know better by now, but this has sat in the queue long enough - it's time to post it!)

Cameo appearance: Dr. Mahar, Mac's Landing Veterinary - who take such good care of us and our herd.

Music: Everywhere is Calling (Ben Bueltmann, Cavepeople)

We’re so close to meeting our goal and once again we've found generous support from another milestone donor, who's pledging to add an extra $1,000 once we make it šŸ’›

Right now we're about $2,300 away from meeting our $20,000 goal a week ahead of schedule. Every donation gets us one step closer to expanding access to mental health support through the healing power of horses - can you help us bridge the gap by Monday? Who knows what we'll increase our goal to after!

On June 1st, we are starting our facilitated workshop series exploring how to prepare ourselves and our spaces to mindfully support each other in our current context of individual and collective trauma. The first workshop is for community organizations!

The principles of trauma-informed care are a paradigm shift for the care of self and others, professionally and personally. Understanding how to implement these principles can positively influence your interactions and your ability to support clients and collaborators-- including by creating a positive and nurturing work environment, enhancing collaboration and creativity, and contributing to a healthy, resilient sense of well-being in yourself and your groups.

Porch Party Gratitude

On Saturday, we welcomed over 300 guests to our little peaceful nook, with darn-near-perfect weather. We talked, laughed, admired art, made art, visited with the herd, ate, and drank, all while listening to and dancing to Michigan-made music. Some of us even did cartwheels!

Our hearts are overflowing with gratitude. So many people make this event and our mission possible. and moving forward. Our volunteers are essential and incredible, and our generous sponsors make the reality of a "pop-up event" a fundraising reality.

Your generosity helped the 2026 Porch Party raise $9,000 towards our Horses for Mental Health Support Drive! Sponsored by Zoetis Equine

There's lots more to share, but we want to invite you to share your experience and ideas with us in the Porch Party Feedback form linked in the comments or on our event page.

To sweeten the pot, on Sunday, we'll draw three names from submitted forms to win their choice of autographed herd posters!
