Our Mission

Dedicated Care for Life’s Greatest Companions

As a Certified Cat Trainer, my primary goal is to safely and confidently provide enrichment and stimulation for our feline companions. Education and appropriate training is vital to provide you and your feline the greatest opportunities for a happy and healthy home. Often this is from behavioral issues, mismatched expectations, lack of pr

eparation, or incompatibility with other pets or individuals in the home. These pets often find themselves surrendered to the local shelter. In Cumberland County for the year 2023, a total of 3,026 cats were processed into the county shelter, 28% of the cats were euthanized. Nationally, estimates increase to 45% of all cats are eventually euthanized who enter a shelter. The numbers are staggering and increase year over year. Dogs and cats bring a level of authenticity to my life. I aspire for Blue Isle Pet Cottages to be a lifestyle business which facilities trust within the community as individuals face circumstances in which their pets need a home away from home, specialized care, or training. We are beginning our journey by offering Cat Training Services throughout Fayetteville and the surrounding area. Our training builds upon three positive pillars: Enrichment, Stimulation, and Confidence. We also offer various homemade toys and accessories which are safe, affordable, and effective for your feline companion. Please ask us about customized products to support your training process. We look forward to assisting you and your companion in achieving your training goals and exploring creative solutions for feline care and enrichment! With education and training integrated early into your feline’s life, we can make a difference!

We were just chatting about the benefits of harness and leash training with a client last night! Slow and steady makes the world of difference and your cat will thoroughly enjoy the outside time. It is an amazing way to bring enrichment and stimulation into their life. Whether a harness and leash, appropriate carriers, car travel, or even getting them comfy in a safe pet stroller, we are here to help you in the process. Contact us today and let's have fun training your furry kiddos for a new adventure outdoors!

For some cats, adventure starts with a leash.

When introduced gradually and at your cat's pace, leash training can help build confidence, provide enrichment, and strengthen the bond you share. It can also offer a safer way for curious cats to experience the outdoors.

Definitely an interesting study on how closely disease and behavior are related. At Blue Isle, we remain hyper aware of behavioral cues that inform us as to whether or not a cat may need a medical evaluation. It is extremely important to remember that a trainer is not a licensed veterinarian. Thus, in accordance with our code of ethics, we will never provide medical advice or treatment recommendations to our clients. We remain transparent with our clients when we start to feel a medical evaluation is necessary and will happily engage with veterinary experts to support our clients and the wellbeing of their feline companions.

Happy Friday!!

With all the travel we've had lately, we received a question about how to handle your furry felines while you are gone and we thought we would highlight a few things to consider to ensure your feline is well taken care of.

Knowing your feline's personality is the first major step in your decision process. If you have a more timid cat, perhaps leaving the house for a boarding facility isn't the best idea. Or if you have a cat that is curious, loves exploring, and thrives on human attention, perhaps staying home will leave them a bit lonely.

Whether deciding on boarding, an in home sitter, or leaving your feline with a friend to check in, make sure you know the quality of care they will receive. Just a few thoughts for your checklist:

1) Be clear and transparent about your wishes for care.
2) Make sure you provide enough supplies for your trip (plus a few extra days just in case)
3) Always give an emergency contact who can make decisions on your behalf.
4) Ask about qualifications of staff or the sitter and always see the facility or sitter in person. Vibes are a real thing in the cat world!
5) Yes, you can ask for recommendations from other clients.
6) If your cat requires medication or special considerations, ask about processes. Who in the boarding facility provides the medication and how is it tracked. If a sitter, what is their back up plan if they have an emergency and can't make it. Are they qualified to prepare and give the medications appropriately.
7) For cats with medical needs, make sure you have a chat with your veterinarian about your trip. Leave the necessary records with the boarding facility or sitter in case they encounter an emergency.

When you come home, it is normal to have a day or two of transitional change in your home. The routine has to fall back into place. But watch for subtle indicators in your feline to make sure they are readjusting well.

Although we do not currently offer sitting services (perhaps in the future), we can make referrals to excellent sitters in the area. And as a small tip, chat with your veterinarian assistant or technician. Many of them provide sitting services and have experience in ensuring pets are well taken care of. Let your medical team handle your sitting needs, your cat will recognize them at the vet and it can reduce your feline's stress on the next visit!
