We are done with Iowa State Fair 2026. I don't know where to start.
I took Hawk with the intentions of only doing in hand classes with him. I was going to drive Lucy. I just didnt have the confidence to drive a stallion at a show. Tuesday afternoon last minute I decided to drive him during one of the warm up sessions. He drove so nice, I decided to pull Lucy out of the driving classes and put Hawk in. I can't say enough how fun it is to drive him. He is so smooth and has so much presence about him. I put him in the open pleasure driving class and he was met with a class of very talented and experienced horses. He walked out with third place. He then did the Morgan pleasure driving class. He upped his game in this class and drove a perfect drive. He walked out with second place and I was beyond excited to have drove such a perfect drive with him.
The most exciting part, was making it into the championship halter class with both Hawk and Lucy. I needed someone to lead Lucy in for me while I took Hawk in. Madison jumped to the occasion and did so well showing for the first time, and in a championship class! I am VERY excited to say that Hawk WON the championship Morgan horse halter class and he walked away with the championship! As much as I wish Madison would have walked away with reserve with Lucy, she did not, but, I am still so proud of how she presented Lucy in the class with very little direction!
Now to try to get some sleep. I have been "sleeping" in the barn with Hawk as we found out the stalls are too short for him and he towers right over the top of them. I guess that is what having a 16.2 hand stallion gets me. As luck has it the mare in the stall next to him is "raging" in heat so things have been interesting. No way I would be able to sleep in a hotel, so I have been doing my best to sleep a few minutes here and there on the reclining chair outside his stall. One more night! I've got this!
