Riff has been an absolute rockstar in scentwork class! Now I just need to step up my at home training commitment so we’re ready to sniff out some trials this winter!

You guys… I finally got another dog. 👀
I know you’ve all been patiently waiting and wondering when I’d finally add another dog to the crew. Well… the wait is OVER. When I saw him, I just knew he was the one, so naturally I made Brad purchase him for me. 😏

He’s been settling in beautifully, doesn’t shed a bit, and has already mastered the art of sitting perfectly still on the porch. Honestly, he fits right in here at Ausdauer.

So without further ado… please welcome Skelly, our very own Skellington Dog! 🐾💀✨

I’m just so tired of the high horse mentality. Maybe instead of tearing each other down over every minor thing, we could just… cheer for each other? Support each other? Make the dog show community & sports something people actually want to be part of?
Seems that concept is lost on most these days. Marni’s expression here is very fitting, it reflects mine.

Hops is always 100% in for FastCAT! 🤣
She isn’t entered in Septembers FCAT events (she’s got two weekends of agility though), only Riff is, and I’m excited to see if he takes to it just like his mom and sisters have! Let us hope so, and maybe he can earn his BCAT!

Does anyone else have any FastCAT plans for the rest of this year?

This past weekend Hops and I stepped into the agility ring together. It was my first time competing since 2022, and that only makes the fourth ASCA agility trial I have ever entered. For Hops it was her very first agility trial ever. We entered ASCA agility at Purina Farms with a full schedule of 18 runs across jumpers, gamblers, and regular.

Going in I had my hopes a little too high pertaining to our Q rate, and I was quickly humbled. Out of 18 runs we came away with 5 Qualifying runs. She earned a novice jumper Q, a novice gambler Q, a novice regular Q, and 2 novice regular half Qs. She is now halfway to all of her novice agility titles.

The rest of the runs were a mix of a few knocked bars, missed gambles, and some “oops” moments, mostly on my part. Friday felt great. Saturday started great but ended rough. Sunday was much better again.

What stood out most to me was how much Hops tried. She is fast with 6.4 YPS on one run and she is so observant. We had moments of brilliance, moments of struggle, and everything in between, but I am glad we did it.

I probably originally set my expectations too high for her debut but after Saturday’s struggle, I changed my mindset and my outlook, and I am extremely proud of my Hoppy girl. We are getting ready for our AKC agility debut next month and I am excited for what is ahead.

On my drive home from class today I listened to The Q Coach podcast that was recommended by one of my wonderful puppy owners. The episode was about being ready. Ready means something different to everyone but it made me realize we are ready. Not perfect and not polished but ready to learn, to grow, and to celebrate the journey together.

Here is to many more agility weekends with my wild and wonderful Hops. 🐾💨

🎉 Big congratulations to F***g (&Lauren) from our GCHG Ripley x Cersei cross for passing her AKC STAR Puppy Test! ⭐️

We love seeing our puppy families take the initiative to bond with their dogs through training and teamwork. Early foundations like this set the stage for a lifetime of learning and fun. Way to go F***g and her owner Lauren!

Also, isn’t F***g getting so big?! They just turned 5 months old!

Very good points!

We are gearing up for our first agility trial since 2022, three years! The last time I stepped into the ring, I was running with Cersei, Hops’s mom, my foundation bitch. Now I get the joy (and nerves!) of making my agility return with Hops, my first bred by to debut in ASCA agility.

We are so excited, and yes, I’m also quite anxious. This post is really just to ask for all the good vibes and positive thoughts you can send our way!

Hops will have 18 runs over three days, 6 a day:
2 Regular, 2 Jumpers, 2 Gamblers

If it seems like too much, we’ll cut back on her runs and “eat” those entry fees. We will be indoors at the beautiful Purina Farms, which is such a great venue.

The trial is an ASCA event, hosted by GASC (Gateway Australian Shepherd Club) which I’m proud to be a member of. Our ASCA trials are always so nice with agility, obedience, rally, and conformation all in one building & dock jumping just down the hill!

Hops & I have been training for over a year, and we still have some work to do, especially on our A frame contact (please, Hops, no launching from the top 🙏🏼), but my biggest hope is that we stay connected, have fun, and that I can be the partner she needs in the ring.

Goals? Maybe bring home some novice Qs, maybe even titles, open jumper Qs would be a huge bonus. But honestly, just getting out there with Hops will be a huge win, she’s a fun girl.

If you see me at the trial, I might be running between arguably too much agility and my trial chair duties for dock jumping, but mostly I’ll be focused on agility. I’m going to do my best to remember to set up my phone for videos so we can share the fun (and hopefully the successes) with you all.

So here we go. Three years later. New partner. New chapter. Same love for the game. 🫶🏼
Wish us luck! 🍀
