Two new rats joined the rescue today due to an upcoming move and a lack of time to dedicate to their care. These boys don’t get along with each other but will need to go to homes with other male rats. Generally we find trios and larger groups are more stable when it comes to male rats, so if you have an existing pair or group of rats and are interested in one more rat for the pile, reach out!

LUCIANO is a 1.5 year old pink eyed white male rat. He is a little shy but super cute and loves treats! He loves his hammocks and will go with his favorite hammock to his new home.

DILLINGER is a 1.5 year old fawn and white male rat. He is an adventurous guy and loves free roaming, dragging cardboard into his special hidey (this will go with him when he gets adopted) and generally redecorating and causing mischief.

OREO and MOUSE came to Tiny Whiskers today from a family who is moving away. They are both 1 years old. Mouse only has three legs (missing a hind leg) due to an incident with the family dog. This is why we NEVER recommend letting pocket pets interact directly with other species in the home!

They will be available in a few weeks. Their vet check is June 16th and they can go to new homes then. We are looking for ideally a special needs experienced home for Mouse. These boys are just now moving into suitably sized enclosures, so we are still learning specifically what accommodations Mouse will need to safely live his best life.

A quick update about our waitlist. We are doing our best to make space as quickly as possible but it has been nonstop with requests, mainly guinea pigs and rats in need. We are FULL. We have a few species with limited openings available, but most of our spots get filled as soon as an animal gets adopted. We have 2 guinea pigs, 3 mice, 2 hamsters, 2 rats, and 1 chinchilla coming in over the next two weeks and that number may go up. Trust that we are doing our best to make room.

Here are ALL SIX male mice looking for homes at Tiny Whiskers. Victor isn’t available yet because he’s still healing.

Male mice are so often overlooked because they can’t live in groups like female mice, unless they are neutered. We can’t afford to neuter male mice unless medically necessary, unfortunately. They CAN be kept with african soft fur rodents, though. But as long as they get love, enrichment, and regular attention they do very well as solo pets and tend to bond closely with their owners if you put in the effort.

We have had mice live their whole lives in foster care. We would love for these boys to find permanent homes instead!

PIBB and FIG are settling in well back to foster care but they are ready and waiting for a new family. They were returned due to Pibb nipping the children in the family, but we haven’t had any issues since their return- their foster is routinely offering fingers through the bars and they sniff but aren’t otherwise interested.

These boys LOVE DINNER. They love to eat!!! They chow down hay and veggies like no one’s business. As a precaution we are recommending that children under the age of 10 not interact directly with them (and as always, any children should be supervised) but these boys would make fantastic pets for a dedicated teen or adult caregiver. They are so fun!
