Kevin finally gets to 🐣 a family.
We will be rooting for you Kev.

Some cool emu facts:

* The male emu does almost all the work after the eggs are laid.
* He sits on the nest for about 56 days (around 8 weeks).
* During incubation, the male barely eats, drinks, or leaves the nest.
* The father continues raising and protecting the chicks for many months.
* Emu chicks grow incredibly fast and can reach near adult size within a year.

🎉 Retirement Party 🎉
for future litters. 😹✂️

A few more cats officially retired from the baby-making business.

Every cat trapped, fixed, ear-tipped, and returned today represents fewer kittens suffering on the streets tomorrow — and a kinder future for our community cats.

Newman came in last week with a few other community cats to get fixed. It was obvious from the start he was a stray, well socialized and young enough to easily be adopted. So much so we checked for a chip. But was assured by his trapper he was part of a large colony in a trailer park that needed managing.

Newman is a sweet beautiful boy. About 8months, fixed, vaccinated and ready to be adopted. He’ll be at an adoption event this Saturday

Some of the “tell tail” signs that a feral cat isn’t so feral:
- the loaf position, paws tucked
- meowing, friendlies talk, ferals rarely do
- soft eye contact and blinks, ferals will rarely look directly at you
- allow you to pet them

The adoption event is Saturday May 9, 11 to 2:00 at the Sanctuary. 230 W Aviation.

So many of the “feral’” cats that come our way are “community” cats.

Trusting enough to be around people and to accept food, but not candidates for indoor domestic cat life. It’s fulfilling to be able to pour some love on them when they’ve been tranquilized for surgery. Wound care, brush out mats, check teeth, clean ears, get rid of fleas and worms, antibiotics. Whatever is needed. “Fixing” is more than neuter surgery

Every ear tip means someone cared

Nemo is a 3 week old kitten born with a something like a club foot. Bones are all there, the cartilage didn’t form correctly and his paw points backward.

Fitted with his custom made boot (craft time at AnimalKind) and getting PT we hope to retrain the foot.

Most vets would recommend waiting and then amputation. But encouraged by research, Dr Jane’s compassion and doggedness, Nemo is getting treatment.

We will keep you posted on his progress.

It’s not always cats here. Meet Mullah, pulled from the shelter to join the flock at Dr Jane’s. We’re investigating his bands for more info.

In the meantime, he has a good place to roost.
