Arctic Akitas

This was our magnificent pure Japanese Akita boy named Kai. Many of my dogs still have lineage that traces back to Kai, whether it is their grandfather or great-grandfather etc. Kai was extraordinarily large for a Japanese Akita, with a substantial frame, amazingly thick profuse coat, really wide head, small ears, just an incredible example of the Japanese type Akita. I was able to import him here to the US from Serbia, a year or two before the breed split here in America, so the only option to get him registered here in America was to get him registered as "Akita" with the AKC. That is why I was able to breed him to many of my other AKC registered females, to produce some of the dogs that I have today ( including some of the Tweenies that I have posted lately). Some of my dogs resemble him in color, and some of them resemble him in structure, and many still pull his typey traits to this day. But the impact that he has had on my kennel over the years has been significant, and we really loved this big red boy so much! We miss you Kai and you will always be remembered 💙🐾✨️

✨️🐾💙 Pluto 💙🐾✨️
I have written previously about long-coated Akitas, but I'll go ahead and write about it again here for my new followers. This young Akita boy, named Pluto, happens to be a long-coated Akita, which is a bit more rare than your standard coat Akitas. And while I do not exclusively breed for this trait, once in a while it does show itself in a few of my breedings, even when both parents are standard coated themselves. This is because the long-coated gene is a recessive gene. This means that even if both parents are standard coat, if somehow deep within their genetic DNA, they do possess a long-coated gene in there somewhere, and if both parents possess this gene, some of the puppies produced can indeed be long-coated Akitas themselves. And while it is true that the AKC does consider this a fault in their written standard, especially when you're in the show ring, many people do enjoy the long-coated Akitas for some of their wonderful traits such as, they're funny and goofy clown-like nature, and being a little bit more laid-back than your standard coat Akita. Not to mention their incredible plush & profuse coat that just looks so amazing, and even more bear-like than your normal Akita, in addition to, many times the long-coated Akitas can have an even more impressive structure and more substantial frame than the standard coat Akita. It is really amazing what genetics can do. Reputable breeders even will occasionally breed a long-coated Akita, if they possess a very fine pedigree and they want to incorporate a little bit larger bone structure into their program, it is not an unethical thing to do. I personally have never done this, but I'm not ruling it out for the future. Long coated Akitas should not be overlooked, they can indeed offer many good traits to the Akita lineage. But for now, Pluto is enjoying a wonderful companion home as a normal Couch Potato pet that goes on adventures with his wonderful family here in Alaska. Did you know that pure black Akita puppies, can change colors significantly as they grow? Many times, Akita puppies can be born black, and even at age 8 weeks they can be mostly black, and then as they get older, their silver or tan undercoat starts to show through, more and more as they mature, gradually becoming something like this young boy Bonanza here, just like a beautiful silver and black wolf! ✨💙🐾🐺🐾💙️✨️

In this video you get to meet Diesel, one of our big handsome AKC registered male Akitas, here at Arctic Akitas kennel in Fairbanks Alaska. This boy here is what we are aiming towards with a lot of our breedings, he is the epitome of what I consider to be the ideal Akita. He's got the size and substance of the American Akita, a big bear head, small ears, a great coat and some of the finer features of the Japanese Akita as well. Best of both worlds, wonderful features from both sides of the family. He's about 75% American Akita and 25% Japanese Akita, AKC registered.
