The Case of the Vanishing Dog

Today’s plan:

✔️ Let dogs out

✔️ Crate dogs

✔️ Leave

The dog had other plans.

Minutes before leaving, she was getting pets and trying to follow me to the bathroom.

Two minutes later:

Gone.

I spent 15 minutes searching the house and yard calling her name because there was no way she could have escaped.

Reader, she had escaped.

The suspect was later located at a nearby park and taken into custody after a brief pursuit.

Upon returning home, I may or may not have held the suspect’s paw up to the camera and informed her human:

“Say hi to mama because I’m a little stinker and somehow got out.”

Fortunately, her human appeared to agree with this assessment. 😂

Charges include:

• Unauthorized Yard Departure

• Failure to Respond to Recall

• Causing Emotional Distress to Her Pet Sitter

The suspect declined to comment.

I later learned this was not the suspect’s first unauthorized adventure.

Today’s lesson: even when a routine has been working perfectly for weeks, it’s always good to know if a pet has any escape artist tendencies.

The suspect is now safely home, enjoying her regularly scheduled activities, and continues to maintain her innocence.

After a few days away for house sits, everyone has settled back into their usual spots.

Dragon the Fiend completed his mandatory zoomie ritual.
Spicy JJ accepted scritches, disappeared, then returned later.
The Royal Menace resumed mommy supervision duties immediately.

Now all three are asleep in the bedroom like nothing ever happened. 🖤

Pet Sitter Chronicles: The Great Crate Reassignment Incident 🐺📦

Today I learned that sometimes the dogs know more than the human. 😂

I let two large dogs out earlier and didn’t pay attention to which crate belonged to which dog.

Later, when I went to crate them again, the bigger dog kept trying to go into the smaller crate and I was CONVINCED he was wrong because in my brain:
big dog = big crate. 🤦‍♀️

So I kept redirecting them while both dogs started switching crates and looking confused.

I spent the next TWO HOURS thinking:
“Wow… these dogs really don’t know where they belong.”

Turns out THEY were right the entire time.
I was the problem. 💀🐾

To make it even better…
I proudly sent the owner a picture showing I had confidently put both dogs in the wrong crates.

The dogs tried to tell me.
I simply chose not to listen.
