Get ahead of the flea problem before it gets out of hand. Call us for an exam to get the best flea medication on the market.
Flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) or flea bite hypersensitivity is the most common dermatologic disease of domestic dogs in the USA. Cats also develop FAD, which is one of the major causes of feline miliary dermatitis. FAD is most prevalent in the summer, although in warm climates flea infestations may persist throughout the year. In north temperate regions, the close association of pets and their fleas with human dwellings creates conditions that permit a year-round problem.
Taming the beast. When you work with a Cautionary pet so well he turns to putty in your arms and falls asleep.
Say Hello" to Raja. He has made it known that he loves this lounger and his visits to Value Vet Animal Clinic. Such a laid back Maine C**n. We could easily hire him as a "Clinic cat."

"Dogs in cars.
With summer comes many PSA’s about dogs in hot cars and with that many, very well-meaning people who worry any time they see a dog in a car.
Dogs dying from overheating in cars is not a myth and is something every person and dog owner should absolutely be aware of and take steps to prevent. Because it’s a tragedy, there is no denying that.
But as a dog owner who goes most places with my dogs (and worry more about well meaning strangers than the heat), I want to make a plea for common sense and awareness this summer instead of just reaction and overreaction.
Not all dogs in cars on hot days are in danger of overheating. They just aren’t. And breaking windows is a huge leap to take unless it's the most dire of circumstances.
If you see a dog in a hot car, look for signs of the dog being in distress such as:
~Very heavy panting
~Drooling
~Vomiting
~Dark tongue and gums
~Lack of coordination
~Unconsciousness
If you are worried about the dog or they are showing symptoms of overheating, please call 911 and have an officer come to that location. But, please, do not break the window to save the dog. That same dog could be human aggressive, car aggressive, a flight risk, or scared out of its mind, which all could result in you inadvertently having the dog spook, get loose in traffic or end up injuring you or others.
If you see a dog in a car on a hot day, look for signs that the owner has made accommodations for the weather such as:
~Car running and the air on
~Windows all the way open and the dogs in crates
~Battery operated fans
~Water for the dogs
~Parked in the shade
~Shade screens up
~Note on the car with the owners number or information
Look at how the dog is acting. Do you see any of the signs of overheating or do they seem comfortable?
Keep in mind more and more dog owners are using devices to monitor the temperature in their car and have it go directly to their phone so they know how hot their car is.
Many dog owners, especially those who compete in dog sports or work with dogs, travel extensively with their dogs and crate out of their cars, even during competitions or hot days. Because of this, many are more than equipped to keep their dogs cool while in a car, even on hot days.
So please, if you see a dog that is overheating and in distress, call the police, try to find the owner and don’t ignore it.
But also, please take a minute to figure out if the dog is in fact in danger or if you helping might actually make the situation worse and cause the dog harm."
Anything that irritates the skin and causes a dog to scratch or lick himself can start a hot spot. Hot spots can be caused by allergic reactions, insect, mite or flea bites, poor grooming, underlying ear or skin infections and constant licking and chewing prompted by stress or boredom.
It is flea and tick season again. Get on top of it before they are crawling on top of you.
