“You Remembered Me”

"The snow had fallen steadily all day, and the little cat raced through the woods, desperate to get home before the snow got any deeper. His whiskers were already resembling icicles, and he didn't fancy the thought of a night out in a blizzard.

Feeling tired, he paused to catch his breath and took the chance to soak in the beauty of the winter blanket that encompassed him.

"Listen to that!" thought the little cat to himself. "Silence!" But the sound of a cracking twig soon broke this, startling him.

He cautiously looked over his shoulder to see what was making the noise and froze at the sight of a shadowy figure slipping between the trees. With fur on end and an arched back, the little cat was ready to run full pelt to safety, but then he saw a familiar face come into view, and his heart jumped for joy. He watched as the snowman shuffled down the bank and settled himself amongst the birch trees.

“I never thought I'd see you again!" cried the little cat, jumping excitedly around in the snow. "Why, you haven't changed a bit! Oh, how I've missed you."

The cat asked lots of questions, but, like before, his friend never spoke; he just looked into the cat's eyes and smiled.

“I must go now," said the little cat, as he noticed the sky growing dark and heavy with more snow. "But I will come back and see you tomorrow. I'm going to make another cat angel for you, and I WILL beat you in the snowball fight this time."

The little cat turned to leave; his heart full of happiness at seeing his old winter friend again, then suddenly paused and turned back to face the snowman.

“It's been a long time since I saw you last; thank you for remembering me. That's done more for me than you'll ever know."

It’s good to be remembered. Do something nice for someone today.

Be sure to share this reminder to "cherish the dog" to all the animal lovers in your life:

No one tells you how quickly dogs age. How one day you wake up and suddenly their face is all white, how their eyes start to seem more milky than before, how you have to call their name a few more times than you used to.

People tell you not to blink when you have children, but what about the dog who was with you before your children were even thought of? The dog who was by your side before you found the love of your life, the dog who jumped from apartment to apartment in your early 20s. No one tells you to cherish every moment you have with them . . .

Cherish the dog. The one whose been there through every break up and every dumb fight with your best friend. That dog who slept in the bed with you when you were lonely and made you feel safe when you left home. Cherish him, because one day you'll take him on a walk and he'll start to get tired before you and you'll realize just how many years he's been walking by your side.
