As promised, here is that gorgeous red St. John's Wort tincture. This is how you know the herb is especially potent. There are also milky oat tops in with the St. John's Wort. The left jar is infused oil, which is also quite red, its just hard to see.

Look at this amazing amount of St. John's Wort that I foraged on my morning walk. This is currently becoming a tincture along with some milky oat tops. It's great for Seasonal Affected Depression. I also have some infusing in oil to make a lovely salve for bumps and bruises.
One thing that's fun about St. John's Wort is that it turns the menstruum (oil or alcohol in this case) the most beautiful purpley red color! I'll show pics of that tomorrow.

A local mom asked me for some gardening advice, so I helped her out and built these raised beds for her first year gardening! The beds are made from fence picket. I leveled them out and then filled them half full with leaves, then added soil and compost for the top half. I can't wait to see what she grows in them!!

I'm so excited! I finally got my compost system set up! This is a two-bin system- I'll layer all the greens and browns in the left side, and when it's pretty full, I'll switch to the other side. The left will sit for a while to break down and then I'll sift the fresh new soil out of it to add to all my beds! So silly to be excited over dirt! What are you excited about in your garden lately?

For the second year in a row, this is what I asked for from my kids for mother's day and they provided - buckets of compost to top off my raised beds. This year, we got 27 buckets full!! Now it's time to plant all those lovely veggies I got on Friday!

This was one of the first I read that helped inspire my family to start our . I read it years ago, as you can tell by the very worn book jacket! The review though, I wrote for my urban farming class in undergrad last year. Guess what? I got an A!

It's a birthday over here! The baby boy is turning 14!! He asked for a Black Forest cake. He doesn't know this is gluten free (because I don't bake with stuff I can't eat lol!). I would have rather used fresh cherries, but we've still got a couple months to go. It's been a while since I've made a cake, so this was fun!
Chocolate cake
No Kirsch, so I used cherry juice
Whipped cream frosting
Cherry filling
Maraschino cherries on top

What is this random cabinet you ask? Well this will be my new Little Free Library and Little Free Art Gallery!!
Second pic shows the red tin roof that my brother cut for me, and the last picture is the stump in front of the house where it will sit!
I just need to cut and attach a stronger back, then caulk and seal it, and then I can get to the exciting painting and setting it up!! Yessss!
