Well we'll chalk it up to an experience! We showed up and did what we could and it was great exposure for Zafira (and me lol). Showmanship went pretty well, I forgot to show while in line and Zafira got antsy on the part I thought we would ace, trail was OK and free style (which I wasn't expecting to do) was a disaster! That wraps up the competition, awards and sale tomorrow :)

Tomorrow is our big day ending this years mustang challenge for me and Zafira. We learned alot and I'm thankful for the opportunity. We did not meet all our goals, not going to lie I'm disappointed in myself but we will continue to work and grow. I have yet to put a first ride on Zafira so we will be competing in showmanship and in hand trail. Wish us luck!

Well, we are at the end of the competition and I haven't updated much lately so I'm going to do a quick catch up!

Slowly making progress :) actually we're starting to move along and my goal is to have our first ride by the end of next week 🤞😳😃

We took a trip today and participated in trainer days. Zafira was awesome, she loaded and unloaded like a champ and did a great job being in an arena with lots of other people and horses. Overall we got lots of tips and it was a great success!

Zafira rocking her hair dos!

We had some set backs recently so we are just getting back on track. We were going good and one day I went into her stall and she was completely freaked out, she panicked so much she actually slipped and fell, getting her legs caught in the panels. She was uninjured but she went back to square one, we had to start over as it might as well been day one. This was right before memorial day and we were away for the weekend, when we came home she had also lost her halter. With in a couple days we all came down with covid so there went another week. So far we now have a new halter on and we are getting back to the round pen. I'm certainly not where I wanted to be at this point but I love her and am enjoying this journey.

Today was an exciting day for me and Zafira, we made the journey from her paddock to the round pen! She crossed a questionable ditch and went through two gates that may have also been sketchy lol she did great leading and was much more relaxed with more space so I'm glad to have crossed that mile stone. I've also been able to swap her halter and ditch the drag line. I can't touch her past her rib cage yet but we are making progress that I'm happy with. Now that we are round pen ready we can move on to bigger things :)

Today my goal was to teach Zafira to touch my hand first for food and then allow being touched. She picked it up quickly and we also did some work with giving to pressure with leading. She's a bit jumpy still, there are lots of new things to understand like weird goats and bags of shavings but I'm happy with how she is adjusting.
