Veteran's Combating Child Hunger will strive to engineer enlightened solutions to one of our societies greatest travesties, the continued existence and spread of child hunger and malnutrition. It all starts right here, with our first Urban Farming Initiative, thanks to a partnership with the City of Euclid. Even with an eye towards next year and beyond, we decided to tempt the fates and try to pla

nt some 60-day Sweet Corn and produce a harvest this year, even as we tie together our organization's structure. With the beneficiary being kids, I certainly can find the time in my hectic schedule, and I encourage you to do the same for this effort, or something that you can connect with and add value to. Message me to pitch in.

THIS UNIQUE PHILIPPINE PLANT EATS METAL AND CLEANS SOIL POLLUTANTS

Found only in Luzon, Philippines, Rinorea niccolifera is a rare, metal-eating plant that has the ability to absorb high levels of nickel from the soil. Known as a hyperaccumulator, it can accumulate metals in concentrations far higher than most plants without harm. This unique trait makes it a potential tool for soil rehabilitation and green mining, offering an environmentally friendly way to extract metals and clean contaminated soils. Researchers hope that such plants could revolutionize eco-friendly technologies for soil remediation and mining in the future.

Our friend recently shared this overhead shot of part of our farm with us. From it, you can clearly see where the chickens have been.

We move our chicken coop, with attached sliding fence, each day.

This allows the pasture grasses and plants to grow back quickly and become lush pastures for our cows and sheep to graze - 40 days later.

The cows and sheep eat the grass down first, mowing it from over 1' down to 6-8", then the coops come after. The hens still have plenty to graze without getting caught up in the tall grasses.

All of these practices help regenerate our pasture but more importantly our soil, which holds water, allows deeper roots to grow, and for abundant life below and above the surface to thrive.
