There’s nothing sweeter than celebrating the season of new beginnings with wagging tails, muddy paws, and unconditional love. Whether your pup is hunting for treats, lounging in the sunshine, or just being their adorable self, this weekend is all about joy, love, and a little extra playtime.

Carrot sticks – crunchy, naturally sweet, and low-calorie
Apple slices (no seeds) – a fresh, juicy snack
Blueberries – antioxidant-packed little treats
Plain cooked sweet potato – soft, nutritious, and filling
Pumpkin purée (unsweetened) – great for digestion

🍪 Special Easter Snacks
Dog-safe “Easter cookies” (made with oat flour, peanut butter, and banana)

The 60th annual Puppy Bowl was just held this past weekend! This event is a great chance to show support for dogs in the shelters around the nation.

This event, which showcased 150 dogs from 72 shelters, was a big hit, welcoming back Team Ruff vs. Team Fluff. Team Fluff snatched victory at the last minute, although we think our senior dogs at halftime really stole the show!

This great event shows great results for adoptions, and we love to support the efforts of everyone involved.

Show us how you and your pup are spending time in this winter weather!

With winter storms possibly in the forecast this weekend, we at SCC are looking at ways to keep our pups stimulated while they may not be able to go outside. A few of our ideas include:

-Find it!: throw a few treats on the ground and encourage your pup to sniff them out. As they get better, make it more difficult! Hide treats under a blanket or out of sight, and encourage them to use their nose to search them out.

-Snuffle Mats: You can buy these, or just take an old towel and throw some food on it. Roll up the towel and let your dog figure out how to unroll it. To make this more difficult, roll it and tuck in the ends so that it doesn't unroll as easily!

-Hide and Seek: Put your dog in a stay or place and go hide, then tell them to come to you! Most dogs will get a kick out of running to find you (Don't forget a nice reward when they get to you!)

-Training!: Teach a new trick or work on last week's lesson! All training will stimulate your pup and help them get the much-needed release of energy. If you are looking for new training topics, you can always give us a call!

January is National Train Your Dog Month!

In 2010, APDT (Association of Professional Dog Trainers) declared January to be the "National Train Your Dog Month" to raise awareness that a lack of training and socialization is the number 1 reason for dog surrenders.

So why January? Many people get new dogs around the holidays, and we sadly see many of these pups struggling to get a good start in their new homes. By starting the year training and getting good communication started with your dog, you are more likely to have a successful life with your companion.

Just as a reminder, training goes beyond sit and down! Training can strengthen your bond, communication, increase safety, and decrease stress! SCC would love to help you get started on this journey. Call or text to book now!
