Rory SMTx3 Second Place Overall
We just stayed calm, focused, and consistent each search, each day. Worked together as a pair, and stayed by each other’s side while we rested and waited. I savored all my moments with him. He’s 13 and has nothing to prove to me or anyone and showed that this weekend by just enjoying himself and happening to get a title and placement. Thank you to everyone this weekend that afforded me the opportunity to play with my dog and has been with us along this journey. I came home and snuggled with my kids while Rory slept by our side. 💕

Volunteers needed!!!

I’ve personally been withdrawing my entries and know of multiple other hosts withdrawing their entries in trials because we don’t have enough volunteers. This isn’t even a story of withdrawing and someone taking our place from the waitlist bc the trials we have been entering don’t have waitlists but we still can’t participate bc of our volunteer situation. There are many reasons to host and have more trials (lots of great reasons) but back then I also hated not getting into trials or only getting into the ones 3+ hours away, and was also frustrated the levels we needed weren’t offered much. So I helped fill that gap and provided local trial opportunities and levels not offered that much, and ones I can also enter. I take polls and try to offer a range. But tbh the more trials I can’t participate in also, the less likely I am to have them entirely. Between my own work life balance, and how much I host, I rarely get chances to enter other trials. I don’t compete in much. And of all the trials I have throughout the year, the number that I get to play in is considerably less than what I host. But if it continues to impact also getting to play then I will reevaluate how much to host so I can enter other trials. Hosts still enter the random draw and are selected just like any other competitor. So sometimes we get in and sometimes we get waitlisted. Sometimes, like you, we use a double draw. And if we get into our own, we secure day of hosts to replace us. But imagine being waitlisted for several, maybe use a draw, but then have to withdraw. We lose those draws and sometimes we are waiting for the next trial we get in. All that work is for nothing if we then have to withdraw bc we can’t get enough help. If I’m not competing, and we’re low volunteers, I know you see me working like crazy so that the trial still happens and competitors don’t feel like there aren’t enough volunteers. My trials run smoothly because of volunteers.

So with that said, I have two upcoming trial weekends, which have trial days I have withdrawn and some I would really prefer not to withdraw, but I need volunteers. If the situation doesn’t change, some of them get canceled which impacts everyone. These are my last two before the fall. Can you help?

📣✨ App Announcement ✨
Updates to the app have been completed and all hosts/clubs should have the new updates. Another new feature is the ability to change colors on your own. Now you can get fancy with special occasions or match your cone colors if you want. I did notice that my colors were not quite the same after the upgrade, but I just went in and fixed it myself through the admin page.

Emmitsburg, MD: Volunteers are needed for the SMT trial at the end of May. This is an amazing experience to volunteer at. You get to see teams compete at the highest level, at an amazing university. If you're not aware, SMT trials, like other trials, have a minimum number of volunteers needs, but this number is much higher than a regular trial because of certain positions required at this level. No experience needed. We can hand you a video camera that is small enough to hold with a few fingers in your hand, sit/stand there and watch the teams search! Literally that's all. We have other positions too but this one guarantees you can watch the searches. Just put your preference on the signup. Not all preferences will be accommodated but we will definitely try!

Frederick, MD: Volunteers needed! We have some trials/days without any volunteers. We simply cannot have the trial if we don't have any volunteers. Please consider volunteering even for a half day.

ParkingLot app update:

I'm aware a lot of folks are waiting for the app update. I apologize that it's taking so long. Truth is, the way the app was originally built wasn't really designed for the number of hosts using it. Basically every host has their own application, so any time someone new signs up there's a lot of manual work, rebuilding the app, customizing, configuring, restarting servers, etc. So any updates need to be manually added to every host's app. I wanted to change that to make things easier to update everyone in the future. So I rearchitected the entire app. Nothing should look or behave different for any of you. But it makes it easier not just for updates (immediate for everyone), but also for bringing on new hosts that would like to use the app.

I plan on swapping servers on Tuesday. After Tuesday, PLEASE test your app to make sure everything works. I've been running it on a test server and haven't run into issues, but I'd like anyone to inform me if they have problems before any trials next weekend. What this means:

- All updates are immediate to all sites any time there's an update.
- Authentication option for protecting the admin page. If you'd like to password protect your admin page, let us know and we can set auth to "true" for your site. If you choose this option, on first login the admin will be required to set a password. To let volunteers manage the parking lot during a trial you can set a volunteer code they enter, then they'll have access to managing the left and ride sides.
- Color change: You'll have the option of setting or changing your side and font colors yourself. There's a new menu item in the admin sidebar for this.
- Other recently shown updates: New menu bar for quick access on the competitor page. New "Trial Info" section where you can add things like search details, etc. Can now use the ':' character in messages. You can also use emojis in messages or trial info.
- New host setup. This is the biggest change. If a new host wants to use the app, they take care of it all themselves and their site is up automatically. Once they pay Jen, they will get a code emailed to them. Follow the link in the email, enter the code, then continue to setup your app. You enter your desired URL, pick your colors, and you're ready to go.

I'll update on Tuesday. The site will probably be unreachable for a small window on time on Tuesday while everything transfers over. Everyone's DNS resets at different times, so if it doesn't work or you get the old site, give it another 30 minutes or so and it should eventually start working. Like I said, I'll update when the switch was made and everyone can test and confirm the change to their site.
