September classes are open — here’s what’s coming.

The Compass is a new kind of foundations course. Rather than manners as we usually think of them, The Compass focuses on the skillbuilding that makes life with your dog actually work — regulation, communication, confidence, and yes, a few engagement skills too. This course is the foundation behind everything I do in my 1:1 coaching work, and it’s rarely offered to the public. Mondays at 6pm, starting September 7th. Free for active Wayfinder clients.

Intro to K9 Nosework — your dog learns to find a specific odor hidden in the environment. No prior training, no special breed, no experience needed. Just a dog following their nose and loving every minute of it. Mondays at 7pm, starting September 7th.

Scent Circle runs Tuesday evenings on an ongoing basis — for nosework students ready to continue their scent journey once their dog is on odor. Open to my students and those coming from other instructors.

Skill Tree is open enrollment anytime — a self-led community with regular activities, enrichment, and skills to keep your training relationship alive.

Have you met Like Magic’s Junior Trainer? Cassidy has been helping me with dogs and training herself since she was old enough to walk. Artemis is intended as her dog and she’s getting the chance now that we’re settled to really solidify that bond.
Cassidy is 10 years old today. It is ALSO national dog day, and I have some announcements for the coming month that I’m really excited about - but, that’s going to wait until after the birthday celebration concludes.

In the meantime, comment a wave 👋 to the birthday girl and let me know about any of your childhood pets!

Karma is very interested in the world outside. While there’s no plans to ever have her outdoors unattended, unsecured, or out of reach, management always can fail.
Refreshing Karma’s recall lets her enjoy some time outdoors while also keeping an ear out for when she might need to be called to me - because it’s time to go inside, because of a safety concern, or just because she’s venturing a little far away.

Prevention or restricting access to something your pet wants doesn’t reduce interest - it often increases it. Instead, teach them to interact appropriately with the freedom and behaviors they need to be fulfilled.

I may not be there in person, but I celebrate every single one of these wins. DM me if you’re ready to build something like this with your dog - from anywhere in the world 🌎

Willie just graduated from Intro to Odor.

Which means he’s ready for what comes next.

The Scent Circle is my ongoing nosework membership for dogs who are on odor and handlers who want to keep building — new search scenarios, new challenges, new ways to work together. Open enrollment, no set start date, drop in when you’re ready.

If your dog knows their odor and you’re looking for a place to keep going, this is it.

Playing it safe feels easier. As a dog owner and as a dog trainer. Which makes it hard to shift from solely handler-focused work, to letting our dogs...really live. But that’s where the magic happens 🪄

Dee Dee is kind of the poster child for Nosework’s magical ability to build confidence. She started out worried about most things, found the joy of searching, and through it we’ve brought her through otherwise scary novelty. Now she’s enthusiastically searching in a variety of environments and ready for new journeys.

Nosework brought her from pessimism to optimism. And the best part? She did it all online - and so can you.

Introduction to K9 Nosework starts this Tuesday. 🔗 to site in bio.

Special thank you to Eskie Rescuers United for making me a part of this beautiful girl’s journey ❤️

One of my favorite things is being able to practice skills not just in structured sessions but in the moments where they actually count.
