Josie's Misfit Ranch

Josie's Misfit Ranch We save animals wounded in body & spirit - the forgotten and discarded misfits who deserve a second chance.

Josie’s Misfit Ranch cares and advocates for misfit animals so they can find forever homes and live their best lives. “Misfit” animals are wounded in body or spirit who have been discarded, mistreated or ignored because they are considered less than “perfect.” We show these animals the love and compassion they deserve, build their confidence, and focus on all they can do instead of what they can’t

so they can become important members of their forever families. Josie is a beautiful redheaded diva from North Carolina, who was saved by another dog rescue just hours before she was scheduled to be euthanized. She was adopted by Marla Pugh, who had previously been a crazy cat lady, but wanted to expand her lunacy to dogs as well. Josie became Marla’s best friend, serving as her family when she lived away from her human one. Josie and Marla settled into their 10-acre ranch located in Ellensburg, Washington in 2019. Inspired by her love for Josie, Marla vowed to help other animals and connected with Mikey’s Chance Rescue in the Tri-Cities. It was through this partnership where she fell in love with special needs animals. Marla added to her pack with Xander, a one-eyed German Shepherd; Loki, a miniature German Shepherd whose legs were deformed from birth; and Sophie, a German Shepard who has a troubled past and lost half her sight to pannus, a degenerative eye condition. Over the years, Marla fostered several animals – all with special needs.

We are happy to announce the engagement of Munch and Archie … two of the residents at the ranch.

Munch came to us from the Humane Society 3 years ago as a tiny kitten suffering from a broken leg. He loved to munch on fingers, which earned him his name (as well as the fact we are SVU fans). Archie arrived a couple months later, born to one of three pregnant mammas we had just taken in. He and his siblings and cousins had panleukopenia, a deadly virus similar to parvo in dogs. While a couple of kittens didn’t make it, Archie was a survivor. He was transfered to the ranch after he was completely recovered and Munch and Archie hit it off instantly. We couldn’t bear separating them so we decided to keep them.

Since that time their love has grown. They clean each other, snuggle and play. It’s the age old question asked by cat owners everywhere … “Are my cats brothers or are they gay?” And we’ve finally decided to answer it by having a wedding! I mean it is Pride month afterall. And love should be celebrated!

Stay tuned for photos from the big event. We are so happy for these guys! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Here’s a new look at the boy we rescued Saturday hours before he was scheduled to be euthanized. His Fosters are calling him “Gino” short for Eugene. He’s over 100 pounds but very sweet and very nervous. He will need a lot of TLC but we can already tell this guy is a gem!

Happy Pride Month from all of us at Josie’s Misfit Ranch, where love and acceptance are celebrated every day!

Hello friends! We are getting a lot of inquiries about the kittens in our care and are excited that so many people are interested! But many of them have not even been to a vet yet and some aren't old enough to leave their mother. The best way to know what kittens are available for adoption is by going to our website - https://josiesmisfitranch.org/our-animals-to-adopt; or by keeping an eye on our FB feed ... we will start announcing when the kittens are available for adoption here.

Keep in mind that you MUST fill out an application form to be considered. That form is here: https://josiesmisfitranch.org/adoption-app

We then will do an interview and a home check before approval, which takes about a week. All our JMR cats must be indoor only. But what you are getting in return for your patience is a vaccinated, healthy kitten, who has been completely socialized and litter box trained. We will pay to have them fixed, and also support you after adoption with questions or concerns. We will even take an animal back - no questions or judgement - if it doesn't work out.

Thank you for your understanding!

This poor guy was going to be euthanized today but instead is heading home with an amazing foster family who literally saved his life by stepping up and saying they would help him … sight unseen.

His owner who was in her 30s died suddenly last week and her family had no place for him to go. They called multiple rescues and although we were also overflowing we couldn’t let him be put down.

It’s easy to judge people in these situations but the bottom line is all shelters and rescues are full and many people are left with no options except letting them loose or euthanasia. It’s a societal problem … not just an individual problem. And it is heartbreaking.

This dog is super sad and nervous … he doesn’t know what happened to his mom and has been kenneled almost constantly since it happened. He will need a lot of patience, time and love but we have our best people on it!

To help with his care, please donate at www.josiesmisfitranch.org .. To be a hero for animals like this, please also consider fostering. We pay for everything, you just need to supply the love. Email [email protected] to find out more about being a foster hero.

We are setting up kitten cams to keep track of our three new litters at the ranch. These are the “K” kittens … girls (all black) Keira, Krishna, Kovu and grey boy Kivi. Around 4 weeks old (mamma Kamilla is off camera). Stay tuned for more info on how you can access more kitten videos!
