Very interesting! As the caption says - only x-rays can officially diagnose EOTRH but this is something that can help to decide if further investigation is needed.
Thanks to Opening Number Riding Academy, LLC for the great find!

To tell the age of any horse,
Inspect the lower jaw, of course.
Those six front teeth the tale will tell,
And every fear and doubt dispel.

Two middle nippers you behold
When the c**t is two weeks old.
Before eight weeks, two more will come,
At eight months, corners cut the gum.

The outside grooves will disappear
From middle two in just one year.
At two years old, the second pair
Will show these corners, too, are bare.

Again at two, the nippers drop,
At three, the second pair can't stop.
When four years old, the third pair goes,
At five, a full new set he shows.

The deep black spots will pass from view,
At six years, from the middle two.
The second pair at seven years;
At eight, the spot each corner clears.

From middle nippers, upper jaw,
At nine, the black spots will withdraw.
The second pair at ten are white;
Eleven finds the corners light.

As time goes on, all horsemen know
The oval teeth three-sided grow.
They longer get, project before,
'Til twenty, when we know no more.

This old news clipping, from the Toronto Star Weekly (1910-1973) was originally saved by my grandfather. He sent the yellowed scrap on to me when I was just a little girl... and it was among my earliest goals, to commit the poem to memory.

This is a great visual aid into what we as dentists do!
As he says a more than a few times, if the teeth are on a regular schedule you don't need to worry about malocclusions becoming a huge issue.
Thanks to Doreen Norris for the share!

Friends a local barn has suffered everyone horse owner's nightmare with a barn fire. Thankfully, all horses are safe. But the barn and all it's contents are gone. If you have a few bucks to spare to help with grain and hay while they work on recovering that would be so appreciated!
Thank you!

Please help me raise money for my family and friends. Their barn burnt down as well as their indoor. The horses were outside, thank God. Everything else was lost, including their valuables as well as boarders. The Plummers are amazing people and have helped us all along the way... Now it's their...

Had a BLAST at Thompson Estates Elementary School career day! Many thanks to Meredith Clark for the invite and for bringing Spot for the demos. I owe him plenty of peppermints for answering "How do you keep his mouth open" EIGHT times! And big thank you to Aly for holding Spot and helping carrying tools back and forth :)
