Freddie B's Furry Friends Rescue 501c3 non-profit I created this page over 9 years ago to share my shelter and homeless/lost pet volunteer rescue and fostering, education, and advocacy. When Freddie B.

In February '24, I became a 501(c)(3) rescue that opened the door for me to help animals in need so much more. FREDDIE B. - FOUNDER/PRESIDENT/RESCUE OPERATIONS LEAD

Freddie B. has been raising dogs since he was a little boy and over the last years 50+ years, has developed the “gift” of being able to understand them, their body language, and in essence, the ability to communicate with them on

some level, in part, due to his Asperger's Syndrome. retired in 2016, he decided to combine his love of dogs and his "abilities" to communicate with them by becoming a volunteer at his local animal shelter. Since then, Freddie has volunteered thousands of hours of his time in various shelters, primarily working with extremely fearful shelter dogs and those with challenging behavior issues. During the early part of the Northern California campfire disaster in Nov. 2018, Freddie B. volunteered nearly 100 hours at the emergency animal shelter in Chico, California helping care for several hundred rescued dogs, and was specifically assigned by staff to work with the most extremely fearful and traumatized dogs, including those referred to as “fear biters" when they quickly recognized his expertise and abilities with working with these types of dogs. In addition to Fredde B’s shelter work, he has developed an expertise in rescuing elusive hard-to-catch stray dogs with a variety of rescue methods and tools, including the use of live taps. Freddie B. has successfully put that expertise to use dozens of times over the years by rescuing those stray dogs that most others could not catch or rescue. can be found commenting on occasion that since his retirement, his life has literally, “Gone to the dogs.”

Aside from Freddie B’s shelter and rescue work, he cares for his five rescue dogs that he considers his family: Dutch, a chocolate lab rescued from the fires during the Northern California Campfire disaster, Lady, a black lab that Freddie B. fostered when she was found as a stray, then turned into a foster fail when no one came forward to claim her, Tiny, a senior Chihuahua that spent the first years of her life living on the streets with her homeless owner before he gave her up, and Tinkerbell and Trixie, two Chihuahua siblings who were strays for over a year in a rural area of Southern California before Fredde B. rescued them by the use of a trap, then became part of his pack when no one came forward to claim them. has also been a certified positive reinforcement dog trainer for over 4 years (Freddie B. the Dog Teacher, L.L.C.) with his specialty being working with extremely fearful dogs and dogs with aggression issues and having a 5-star Google rating from his numerous past clients. In Freddie B’s spare time; aside from his shelter volunteering, community stray dog assists, and dog training, he enjoys spending time with his canine pack consisting of rescues and fosters.. is also a professional photographer and has travelled the world for his photography, in addition to having conducted numerous shelter pet photoshoots in several shelters to help them get adopted - Fredde B. is currently an artist member of the Avenue West Gallery artist coop. in Spokane, Washington as a Fine Arts photographer,

Brenda had this to say about animal welfare:

“We must be the voice for the innocent animals that have no voice. We need to be able to stand up for them and protect them. They enhance our lives and deserve safe, comfortable, healthy homes. I intend to use the experience of the last nearly 20 years to assist Freddie B's Furry Friends Rescue to continue to advocate and assist animals in need.”

In Brenda’s spare time, she enjoys weightlifting, hiking, outdoor cycling, and time with her own pets.

Update: 07-24-25:

Shelby was successfully secured in someone's garage and rescued. She is now safe in foster care.

Rescue ops (initiated 07-09-25) - "Shelbie" (Terrier mix) - Trent x Napa, Spokane Valley:

Day two of trap set - July 10th: we successfully have kept Shelby returning and to help her feel more comfortable around the trap by giving her tempting treats leading up to it.

Now that Shelby is most definitely contemplating going inside [as seen in video clip #1 towards the end], and even has taken significant interest in the "jackpot" bait food at the very back of the trap as seen in the video clips #2, we are going to reduce the amount of bait tidbits leading up to the trap to where she'll have to go inside to get the majority of the food that she is hungry for.

But this requires her to not be fed anywhere else as she has to be hungry enough to override her hesitation and concern about going inside.

It might take her another couple visits to fully commit herself, but we are confident that she will, as long as she's not getting food elsewhere and/or is not chased from the area to where she won't come back.

So please do not approach [including the trap if you see it], chase, call out to, pull over for, or have any other type of contact with Shelby if you see her, because if you do, you run the risk of scaring her away from the area as she is absolutely unapproachable and fearful and embedded in her survival syndrome.

But please do report here any sightings.

You can also "follow" this album to receive updates on the status and progress of our rescue operation.

Please honor our requests as in doing so and as a community working together, we can bring this sweet Shelby to safety!

Rescue ops initiation (07-09-25) - "Shelbie" (Terrier mix) - Trent x Napa, Spokane Valley:

Several days ago, I began assiting some shelter volunteers and staff in the rescue of Shelby, a very fearful and skittish shelter dog who escaped when she scaled a 6 ft fence in the play yard on July 9th.

Up until a couple days ago, the only sightings of Shelby was with her on the run in a variety of different places, and most of the time, because people were trying to catch her and were chasing her.

Then yesterday, after we established a feed station in an area where Shelby had been recently sighted, she discovered the feed station and had herself a good high value meal.

Then this morning, our hopes that we were able to anchor her to this feed station were confirmed when she visited again.

We will now be putting out a live trap this evening in an effort to rescue her for when she returns.

Until then, please do not approach, chase, call out to, pull over for, or have any other type of contact with her if you see her, because if you do, you run the risk of scaring her away from the area as she is absolutely unapproachable and fearful and embedded in her survival syndrome.

But please do report here any sightings.

Team Blu update - July 18th

This is the second morning in a row that Blu showed up with each time inching farther inside than before, as well as father inside from the days before these.

We're going to give it a couple more days and if we can't get him to go farther inside, and if there's no significant change, we're considering another method to get him to go inside...as this is all we can do is try to work with him and outsmart him and to make him feel more comfortable.

🐾 Baby Huey Update 🐾
Our brave little Huey has had a busy couple of days! Yesterday, he went to Blackhawk Vet for chest x-rays to make sure his lungs were clear after a bout of pneumonia. Thankfully, everything looked good! ✅ That visit was $348, and we're so relieved to have that behind him.

Today, he headed to WSU for a follow-up on his broken leg, and more good news: it’s healing beautifully! 🙌 The pins are staying in for now since they aren’t causing any issues. Huey just needs to take it easy for the next couple of weeks and do some short daily physical therapy sessions to keep things moving in the right direction.

Now that he’s on the mend, Huey is officially ready to find his forever family! ❤️

🐾 But we need your help. His vet bills are stacking up, and we still have an outstanding balance on the orthopedic surgery and ER visit for the pneumonia. If you’re able, please consider making a contribution to help cover his care. Every dollar makes a difference. 🙏

There are two ongoing fundraisers for Huey. Click the link to donate and you’ll be redirected to a PayPal Fundraiser.

✅ Huey’s Ortho Surgery Fundraiser: http://tiny.cc/bmnp001
✅ Huey’s ER Visit Fundraiser: https://rb.gy/b4jj03

Thank you for cheering on Huey and being part of his journey!

Team Blu update (07-16-25):

After his normal 2 to 3 day absence, Blu shows back up early this morning to get his treats of chicken leading into the Missy trap, and goes even farther in this time - he is still regaining his courage after the last time he was spooked over a week ago.

We also have some alternative methods of rescue in the works while we wait for Blu to build his courage back up to cross the threshold.

Welcome our newest rescue, "Moose" [named after the campground he was found in and who came to us on July 12th after the camp hosts of the campground who rescued him asked us for help.

I became aware of Moose's abandonment when one of my rescue fosters, Cailyn Risinger, was contacted by a camper couple, David and Sheila, and subsequently asked me if I'd be willing to take Moose into our foster program as she would foster him.

Even though we normally only take in dogs we rescue ourselves [as our policy due to a variety of reasons], this is one of those very few exceptions that I made...Moose was brought to Cailyn by David and Sheila on July 12th and became our newest rescue.
------------------------
This is Moose's story as written by Sheila, David's wife [written in Moose's own words]:

"Moose the Mighty
Journal entry #1 Origin Story: 7-12-2025

Today was the first day of my new life. I’ve decided that I won’t give you my whole origin story, because a dog has to keep some things to himself but I will give you this…I found myself wandering around the woods, I will admit, I was scared, I was lonely and I was hungry.

I happened to come across this place filled with people. I really love people but again I was scared. I was looking for something, my people, but they weren’t there. They were not in any of the places I had looked so far. There were lots of other people and they all tried to “catch” me but I was on a mission.

In my wanderings around this place I found some people that I thought I could trust to help me out, so I followed them to their dwelling, it turned out to be something called a store and the place? It turned out to be a campground. I had found my way to a campground full of people.

It took me two days to find the right people, they were not my people from before, but they were pretty amazing. They took me in, gave me shelter, food and water. They had small humans that I will admit, I fell in love with.

My story does not end here however, because as much as I liked these people and will be forever grateful for their kindness, I couldn’t stay with them I needed to find a family of my own.

The reason I need a new family? My old one left me all alone (which is why I went looking for them) and didn’t come back for me.

Thankfully there was a rescue and a foster mom that was willing to take me in and help me find my forever family and a family that was willing to advocate for me and knew the right people to ask (my foster mom stepped up to take me in) they even came and picked me up.

The campground that gave me a chance at a new life? The Lost Moose (which is where I get my name)

The family that helped me? The camp hosts

The rescue that took me in? Freddie B's Furry Friends Rescue 501c3 non-profit

My transport team? The Sargent’s

Things that are awesome about me: While my foster mom is still getting to know me the camp hosts shared the following:

Moose is a big ol potato who loves to go for car/ truck rides, snuggles on the couch and really just wants to be wherever you are. He loves kids and people in general and was a great temporary camp greeter."
----------------------

Yesterday, I went out and met Moose and found him to be such a sweetheart and he is now fully microchipped and vaccinated and already altered - he will be put up for adoption in the near future.

Thank you too all involved and to my foster Caitlin who opened her home up to Moose to give him a loving and safe place where he feels wanted and secure.

Team Blu rescue update (July 13th)

Blu shows up again for his morning snack and gets the courage to inch across the threshold a few more inches.

Now that he has easily accessible food leading up and into the trap, he should be returning more routinely and hopefully farther in every day until he's in far enough to where I can secure him.

We have found that with Blu, it cannot be all or nothing, i.e. he either has to go inside the Missy trap to get the food or he gets nothing. We found that this does not work because he'll lose interest and move on if he cannot be helped to build his courage back up. And this is done by incrementally luring him inside by first giving him easily accessible tidbits of food outside and then slowly helping him build his courage to step across the threshold, as he did this morning by a few more inches...and with this method, he should go farther and farther in with each visit.

I have an alternative rescue plan that only requires him to step in three to four feet, but he has to build up his courage back up after the last time he was spooked.
