🐶 Some dogs have pretty unusual jobs. Like sniffing out bug eggs.

Researchers at the Penn Vet Working Dog Center trained scent detection dogs to find spotted lanternfly egg masses, with support from the USDA 🔬

That's a big deal, because those egg masses are flat, mud colored and easy to miss on a tree trunk or a deck. In early testing the dogs found live eggs with up to 95% accuracy 👃

And right now is go time. Spotted lanternflies lay their eggs from September to November 🍂

Next time your pup stops dead on a walk to investigate one very important patch of grass, just know that nose is a serious piece of equipment 💛

😽 Want your cat to like you even more? Try blinking at them. Slowly.

Scientists at the University of Sussex tested it in 2020. When owners gave their cats a slow, relaxed blink, the cats were more likely to slow blink right back 💛

It even worked for strangers! Cats were more likely to walk over to a researcher they had never met after that person slow blinked at them 🐾

Here's how: soften your eyes, close them slowly, hold for a second, open. Then wait and see 👀

Give it a try this weekend and tell us if your cat blinked back! 👇

🐾 September 28 is National Good Neighbor Day, and dogs have basically been running this holiday for years.

A 2015 study in PLOS ONE called The Pet Factor (by Wood and colleagues) surveyed pet owners in four cities and found that about 4 in 10 of them said they had gotten some kind of real social support, a favor, a chat, a genuine friendship, from someone they first met through their pet 🐕

That neighbor who always stops to ask about your dog by name? That connection started because of a walk.

Say hi to someone on the block today. Your dog probably introduced you years ago 💛
