Well, after the Trackers Haven I thought I should try to get Ruby’s companion, Cliff to start tracking. Since “All dogs can track”….
Our first go round didn’t go to well. I soaked some dog food in blood and dropped them periodically in a line in the grass. He was very distracted and ran back to the shed wanting his (sister)Ruby to come out to play. After he failed, Ruby had to show him how it was done.

I switched tactics.
The second round I soaked liver treats in blood and put them on concrete driveway. I let Ruby be out to watch him and he did way better. Cliff is a Lab, Blue Heeler, Australian Shepard Mix. The blue heeler in him is his drive…however that drive is to chase not smell.

Here’s the video. I plan to keep following up as he may or may not improve. Eventually I hope to introduce deer hooves.

Ruby and I made it home from IDTN’s Trackers Haven this weekend. We enjoyed hanging out with all the other dogs and folks we met from around the country. She was on her best behavior this weekend. What a great event! Many people work tirelessly and travel very far to put on a flawless event every year. I appreciate each and every one of them for passing on their experience and knowledge to make us a better team. We met folks from Florida, Texas, Georgia, Oklahoma, Michigan, Maryland, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, and probably more that I’m forgetting.

I didn’t get too many pictures but I’m sure there will be more to come. I’ve got some go pro footage of training exercises that we did that I’ll put together a video with eventually.

Once again thank you to everyone who helped put this on again this year!

Ruby got to meet her liter mate brother, Bobby Ray, again this morning. Bobby and Matt are a great team out of Southeast Missouri.
