‼️‼️‼️ On the Beaumont City Council meeting dated February 3, 2026, they announced that there was a $1.9 MILLION dollar Grant Application done and approved for Alice Keith Park for Enhancements.
These enhancements are to include:
🔸Building TWO pavilions with 2 benches underneath them;
🔸The two basketball courts that are already there – one will be a new tennis court and the other will be made into a pickleball court;
🔸There will be a designated soccer field built and the fence will have to be raised;
🔸There will be a designated football field;
🔸They will build a new drinking water fountain;
🔸An addition will be made to the existing community building and will include a computer lab & recording lab (for podcasts and the like);
🔸A new playground will be built;
🔸A new splashpad will be built;
🔸Renovations to the restrooms will be done.
🤷♀️ It is my understanding that when the City of Beaumont applies for grants, this is free money, it doesn’t cost the taxpayers anything and it doesn’t raise property taxes.
‼️‼️‼️ I say all of the above to say this – ‼️‼️‼️WHY HAS THERE BEEN NO GRANTS APPLIED FOR, TO EITHER UPDATE THE CURRENT BAC SHELTER OR BUILD A NEW ONE AND, ‼️‼️‼️VERY IMPORTANTLY, I’D LIKE TO KNOW WHY THE OUTSIDE RUNS HAVE NOT BEEN ENCLOSED LONG BEFORE NOW, KNOWING THE CITY COULD HAVE APPLIED FOR A GRANT AND DONE THIS YEARS AGO AND KEPT COUNTLESS ANIMALS WHO HAVE PASSED THROUGH BAC, FROM SUFFERING THE HIGH SUMMER TEMPS AND THE LOW WINTER TEMPS OF OUR AREA?
‼️‼️‼️ There is plenty of room for a city shelter to be built, where the city owns the softball fields and tennis courts on College Street. The softball fields are currently underused after the new ones were built by Ford Park. This would save the cost of having to purchase land to build.
🟥 If any of you have ever attended a City Council meeting – you’ve heard how important it is to the Council to “grow Beaumont”. Realtors and I’m sure SOMEONE from the city does, as well, actually reach out to different companies, telling them how wonderful Beaumont is (talking Beaumont "up") and that they should recommend their employees relocate to Beaumont.
🔺🔻 But, I know for a fact, if these employees with these large companies that are being targeted to convince them to move to Beaumont – learned that the City of Beaumont and it’s council members have done NOTHING TO DATE in any way to:
🔲 Improve and/or update our city animal shelter; and
🔲Do nothing to hold the current Supervisor accountable for all the wrongdoings he’s allowed to take place under his watch;
🔲That in fact, they (council members and mayor) are notorious for not responding to emails of complaints about BAC from the community and that they would not be interested in even considering the city of Beaumont as one they would want to relocate to. Many more people than the Beaumont politicians care to admit, deeply care about animals and how they are treated and cared for, in a city-run shelter – and this COULD factor into a decision to NOT relocate to our city ‼️‼️‼️
1️⃣ For instance, I’m sure that if I were to reach out to these same companies being targeted to make Beaumont seem irresistible – that if they knew that 2.5 years ago the Beaumont animal control supervisor, euthanized two Code Red dogs with half the kennels in their entire shelter EMPTY – instead of giving them an extension; then throwing these two dogs under the bus by saying they had “behavioral issues” when they did not; that they banned a shelter volunteer for exercising her first amendment right of speech and for speaking up about wrongdoing in the shelter; and in fact, made false and contradictory statements in their own emails about certain facts; that they still had these two dogs with “behavioral issues” available for adoption to the community and that their bios on their posts by the shelter staff said nothing about them having “behavioral issues”; that the shelter was allowed to do an INTERNAL investigation on themselves and of course, found “no wrongdoing”; that that the supervisor led the council and mayor to believe that the “whistleblower” volunteer was a disrespectful, unprofessional, rude, discourteous volunteer while at the shelter – when there was zero proof (because it didn’t happen) and she was never spoken to about this “alleged” behavior until AFTER she exposed the wrongdoing;
2️⃣ Another instance, if they knew the supervisor and staff sent 124 mostly dogs and 11 cats to an inhumane rescue, therefore violating their own policy of requiring rescues to have a 501c3 Nonprofit status, registered with the IRS, which this one did not have; and despite the fact that I made sure BAC staff were told of the numerous, huge red flags I found out during a phone conversation I had with the owner.There were multiple inhumane living conditions these dogs and cats were forced to live in – dogs getting into fights was a regular occurrence as well as dog maulings between dogs and also at least one pig; there is proof that the shelter was made aware of and knew what the conditions were at this rescue and what the living conditions were – yet they continued to send animals to them week after week for six months. There are too many infractions to list by Beaumont Animal Care AND the inhumane rescue, to list here. Nothing, by anyone in authority over BAC ever responded to emails sent to them by the community, nor was anything ever done as a result. The unknown remaining animals are now all gone and it’s unknown what happened to them due to that inhumane rescue ceasing all communication with anyone in Beaumont.
3️⃣ Another instance – they had received numerous calls and/or emails from members of the community, that were reported to them, (both the shelter, shelter supervisor, council members and the mayor) on different dogs who, being severely neglected and/or abused - some so badly that they were at deaths’ door.
4️⃣ Another instance, on one case, a severely neglected senior Irish Setter, named Red, who appeared to be near death when we found him and rushed him to an emergency vet - the shelter supervisor didn’t even open an investigation and – the owners were allowed to keep possession of Red, even though they’re the ones who allowed him to get in the condition he was in. They never received any consequences. Our community was enraged. Since the shelter supervisor did nothing, I had prepared a packet and given it to the mayor. It included all of the details on the story of Red, his medical condition upon being discovered and rushed to the emergency vet, a petition with over 900 signatures (which had been done due to the failure of the shelter supervisor pursuing zero legal action and allowing Red back to the owners), along with documentation and photos of Red, this was AFTER the council members were all contacted repeatedly from members of the community who were outraged that the shelter supervisor allowed Red to be returned to his owner. NOTHING was ever done.
‼️‼️‼️ In conclusion, it has been very apparent for 2.5 years, that not only does the City of Beaumont employ a supervisor at its’ city-run animal control shelter that clearly does not care about the animals and their well-being and does not have their best interest at heart – the council members nor the mayor not only DON’T respond to members of the community about animal-related matters, when they email them – they have continued to NOT hold this supervisor accountable for his actions and inactions, with regard to the responsibilities of his job as the animal control supervisor who is SUPPOSED to uphold the laws of Animal Welfare in the city of Beaumont – for the state of Texas! ‼️‼️‼️
❌ I would advise, if you are relocating due to your job or any other reason – and if you love animals – to NOT choose Beaumont, TX as your new home. ❌
