šš¾ This is why I do what I do. š¾š
Yesterday I had the honorāand I truly mean honorāof grooming a sweet pup named Lily. She was recently seized in a heartbreaking neglect case and was one of the worst of all of them when it came to matting. Her coat was so compacted I couldnāt even get my shears through it to splice the mats. So, into a long, gentle conditioning bath she went.
I braced myself for fear and panicāshe had never seen a groomer, never heard the loud dryers, never experienced the smells or strange sensations. But this girl? Lily soaked up every second. Treats, pets, warm water⦠she welcomed it all like sheād been waiting for this kind of care her whole life. š„¹ The water swirling down the drain reeked of a lifetime of dirt, filth, and dead skin shed, but Lilyās spirit only got brighter with each rinse.
When I finally moved her to the table, she flinched at the sound of the dryer. My heart sankābut then she turned her face toward me, leaned in, and gave me a kiss. Right then I knew: she trusted me. As the dryer worked its magic, matted hair literally slid off her like butter. Her tail started wagging. Her eyes softened. And in that moment, she looked at me like, āThis⦠this is what itās supposed to feel like.ā
The rescue was well aware-it might not be possible to save her coat. And I told them honestly, no guarantees. But when I brought Lily back to the gate, clean, comfortable, and still fluffy, I was proud to say, āShe did amazing⦠and yes, I saved her coat.ā
Now Lily is off to her foster home, curious, hopeful, and ready to see what life has to offer her.
This is my passion. This is why I donate my time, my skills, and my heart to dogs like Lily. Because every once in a while, you meet a soul that reminds you why they call you the Psycho Whisperer. šš¶
