Sitting on 129 scenic acres,

ACS is a truly perfect setting for an animal sanctuary and shelter for approximately 150 cats and dogs. Our Canine Care facility is well-maintained and fully staffed with caring and dedicated individuals who are committed to ensuring that the ACS residents are well cared for regardless of the length of their stay. The size and location of the living space of each individual dog within the Canine Care building is carefully selected to best meet the needs of every resident. A high quality diet is fed to our dogs twice daily, including special foods for those who have unique dietary requirements. We work diligently to reduce the stress levels of the dogs in Canine Care. Indoor enrichment, such as stuffed Kongs, Nylabones, and toys are available to the dogs, and the staff and volunteers interact with the dogs as much as possible including walks through the fields, wading in the ponds, quiet time at an out-of-the-way picnic table, and positive reinforcement training. Our cattery stands out as an exceptionally clean and well organized example of cat sheltering. It takes a large team of individuals to maintain the high standards of cleanliness ACS upholds. Time for socialization and one-on-one care for the cats is scheduled into each employeeโ€™s day, so as to ensure that the cats are receiving everything they need to be happy, healthy cats. We created communal cat rooms and enclosures to best provide for the socialization and โ€œcolony-mindโ€ of the cats that are living here. In 2020, Animal Care Sanctuary reached an all-time record for adoptions, finding homes for 1,243 animals. These cats and dogs came from all kinds of locations and backgrounds, from local surrenders to big city strays to deep south rescues, and even 20 dogs saved from a meat farm in South Korea. We work with educational institutes at all levels, from grade school students to college internships, to train and raise awareness for the next generation for the humane treatment of animals.

Some stayed with us for only a short time before finding their families. Others needed a little more time, patience, medical care, or love. And some are still here waiting for their happily ever after. ๐Ÿกโค๏ธ

Imagine spending your entire life surrounded by the people you loved, knowing the comfort and routine of home, and then suddenly finding yourself in a shelter. While these five are doing their best and seem to be adjusting okay to shelter life, we know that senior cats can struggle more with the stress and uncertainty of a shelter environment.

The good news is that they do NOT need to be adopted together. Each one deserves the chance to have a quiet, comfortable place to call home again, whether that means finding a family of their own or, for the right adopter, keeping a pair or more together.

They have already experienced one heartbreaking loss. Weโ€™re hoping their next chapter can be filled with love, comfort, stability, and a warm bed to sleep in.

Mr. Peabottom has a story that breaks our hearts.๐Ÿ’”

This sweet senior boy was found outside in absolutely terrible condition. Weโ€™ve worked hard to get him feeling as good and as healthy as we possibly can, and through it all, he has shown us what a gentle, affectionate soul he truly is.

But sadly, we know we canโ€™t change everything heโ€™s facing. ๐Ÿ’”

Mr. Peabottom has heart disease, anemia, an elevated white blood cell count, and his body does not appear to be producing enough new red blood cells. This tells us there may be another underlying disease process, which could be inflammatory, infectious, or cancerous.

And the hardest part? We simply donโ€™t know how much time he has left.

It could be days, weeks, or maybe even months. But whatever time he has, we donโ€™t believe he should have to spend it in a shelter.

Mr. Peabottom doesnโ€™t need much. He wants a soft place to rest, a human who will love him, gentle pets, and someone who will simply sit beside him and make him feel safe. He gets along wonderfully with other cats, too.

We are looking for a very special hospice adopter who can open their heart and their home to Mr. Peabottom and love him through his final days. ๐Ÿ 

He has already been through so much. Now, he deserves to know what it feels like to be home.
