Intro to Hand Stripping ft. Kat & Betty! 🐾✂️

Hand stripping is a grooming method primarily used for breeds with rough and wiry coats. Instead of clipping, groomers carefully remove the dead hair by hand, typically with the aid of tools such as stripping knives or stones. This preserves the coat’s natural texture and rich color.🐶

Shaving down a wire-haired dog too often can potentially damage their coat, causing it to grow back soft and dull. Hand stripping prevents this and supports a healthy coat. Don’t worry—done correctly, it does not hurt your pup, it just mimics their natural shedding process! 🙌💛

Most wiry breeds only need it 2–3 times a year. If you or a friend has a wire-haired dog, bring them by the Pit Stop for a professional hand strip! 🐾✨

In our 9 years of business, this is only the second time we’ve raised prices — and we’re committed to keeping them fair and as stable as possible for the future.

A Deepdive into the AKC Terrier Group!

Terriers are some of the feistiest, most determined dogs around, and for good reason! For centuries, rodents and pests were a massive problem for people, and terriers became the solution. Nearly all terrier breeds (except the Miniature Schnauzer and Cesky Terrier) were developed in the British Isles or English colonies, and their bold personalities reflect their working roots.

Terriers can be grouped into three subtypes:
🐾 Short-Legged Terriers (“Earthdogs”) – Small, flexible, and fearless, these dogs were bred to chase rats underground. With strong jaws, sharp eyesight, and loud barks to alert handlers above ground, they were perfectly designed for life below the surface. Their coats often matched their environment—like Scotland’s wiry-coated terriers that could withstand the tough Highland weather.

🐾 Long-Legged Terriers – Instead of going underground, these dogs dug from above or chased bigger prey like foxes and badgers. On farms, they were all-purpose workers, keeping pests in check while also proving to be tough, adaptable companions.

🐾 Bull Terriers – In the 18th and 19th centuries, terriers were crossed with bulldogs to create strong, determined dogs for now-banned blood sports. While those practices are long gone, these dogs became the foundation for many of today’s popular bully breeds.

Whether short, tall, or bull-type, all terriers share a fiery spirit, sharp intelligence, and fearless drive.
